SARS E-Filing 2021/22

May I ask advice.
My dad is auto assessed last year and this yearast year I could view anything and accepted the return
This year I viewed it, there are some.minot changes that I want to do
Eg.it has a Y for a tax practices and that practices number(I assume it's his ex practitioner he used to use but no loner uses one)
It has a Y for employment yet he is now retired.
Can I just edit the return and submit ? Or do I have to some dispute and await for their agreement?

Normally due my submission myself. Did a trial run and received about double what I normally get back annually.

Decided to run everything via TaxTim to be 100% sure. Took a while as TaxTim now manually checks everything before submission.

Submitted via TaxTim (via their website) recieved my payback about 2 days later with no assessment and no supporting documents needed.

This year was the first time I didn't get audited since 2019. Submitted on Sunday received refund today from Sars. after I made deductions changes I'm surprised.

Didn't claim any WFH expenses tho. The amount of paperwork to gain a few bucks was not worth it.

Received letters that my case has been finalized with no changes. Still can't see a payment date on my SOA though.

My SOA still shows they owe me money. Nothing after that yet

Well checked in today because normally I get notified of a return awaiting completion and I was worried about this auto process because I know SARS owe me every year going forward since last year: disability deduction for my son and pension contributions not tax processed by employer and done privately.

So logged in and surprise no 1, no awaiting returns. Ok, so click and generate, all good, IRP5 is in and accurate, medical deductions, even the RA declaration is preloaded with the tax info and the ITDDD is loaded and valid still for the tax year, didn't need to input anything. Ran the calc , some lovely numbers showed up, pretty much what I was expecting and clicked submit.

As before, nearly instant reply, you have been selected for verification. Ok , sure but they have all the documents and data pre-filled so maybe someone is just going to give it the once over. 10 minutes later, please submit supporting documents? Like what? You have the info and I would assume the document directly from the institutions which is the whole point of the sars efiling system changes in the last year and the quick process.

So I submitted medical tax certs, RA tax cert and the same IT-DDD that's valid. Now awaiting 21days turn around for verification :( No additional medical expenses or deductions were declared so its really arb and the last time they held on to Day 20 to process everything. Seriously, these guys don't want to pay money owed.

Logged into Efiling on 2nd July, checked on auto assessment, did not reflect IT-DDR2 for my disability that was sent in last year(and the past how many years). Updated IRP5 and submitted. Immediately got selected for verification and request to supply supporting docs, also just claiming extra pension contribution, medical tax certificate and valid signed of IT-DDR2, docs submitted on 3rd July. 21 working days start, no communication except that they have received supporting docs. 21 working days later get update ITA34 issued with updated amount, but here's the kicker block, selected for verification shows N, not selected. Draw statement of account shows payment will be on 4 August. 4 August arrives no payment, check, payment reversal. Then get letter requesting verification documents for 2022 tax year again. Send in docs again, 21 days start again. Then later the day I get letter for verification of documents for 2020 tax year, so sent in docs again. Only received conformation that they received the verification docs. So it appears they do not have staff to do the verifications and the 21 days are just rolling over and then regenerated when payments are reversed.

Got my verification complete without changes complete yesterday afternoon, a month after my verification being allocated. No change on my SOA yet

Out od despereation I decided to phone SARS yesterday. After 10 minutes of waffle about agents under training, WFH etc etc, I got told I am number 221 in the queue. Just put the phone down.

Got email late yesterday, verification for 2020 tax year completed without changes, but no news on 2nd verification for 2022 tax year!

21 days after submitting my docs for verification, I called SARS. Waited almost 20mins then got "the mailbox is full, so I left a rating of 1's. The next day I received an SMS that my case was allocated to an official and soon after my case was finalised. Refund paid 2 days later.

Who says leaving a rating has no impact?
