Presbyterian thought plays a part in the identity of Presbyterian Scotsmen. Catholic identity has always been much larger, more international, more, er, catholic. And far less sectarian. Demonstrably so.

My own post-17thC Scottish ancestors were fierce Presbyterians, so I can well imagine their dismay at my own ecclesial affiliation ... assuming of course that dismay is only felt by those who now find themselves in that place of perennial dismay. The rest I am sure rejoice that I have embraced the faith of their ancestors and kings and lairds and ordinary folk. :p

But we are usurping this thread, so let us return to modern Scotland and its struggle to find itself. Any indications on the vote?

Lol, Johnson wasn't a fan of the Scots. His dictionary definition for 'oats'...

Oats. n.s. [aten, Saxon.] A grain, which in England is generally given to horses, but in Scotland supports the people.

Johnson couldn't help his dislike for the Scots but I think they got their own back when William Smellie did the first great cut and paste job in compiling the Encyclopædia Britannica First Edition ....

Sadly the print edition is no more and there are no true Scotsmen in Chicago
 
So I read there are no exit polls, and so at 10pm we will still hear nothing. Is that correct?

Frankly, when all is said and done, I don't expect the Ayes to carry it.

Yeah, I do think it is an exciting time for Scotland. And I don't think a repeat of this will happen soon.

And the case of the Ayes taking it is highly unlikely
