So has Quebec...despite polling right before the day saying independence would win.

Salmond doesn't actually have any plan for an independent Scotland. All he is appealing to is the emotion rather than reason. It's all going to go downhill if they do vote 'Yes' but hey if Scots want to dig their own hole, let them be. The obvious anti-English sentiment expressed by Scots who are voting Yes is quite clear for all to see...

They had time to take the magazine, to talk, to argue. I encountered one of the now-notorious Yes thugs. One insisted on smoking a rolled-up cigarette in the face of an elderly woman I was talking to, when he heard she was voting No, and refused to leave us. He took a Spectator, only to put it in the bin – saying that I sounded English to him, and ought not to be there. Afterwards, the lady told me fear of such menacing figures had stopped her putting a No poster in her window. There is optimism in Scotland’s debate but fear, too – and the kind of behaviour that is never too far behind any kind of nationalism.

Of course it is also completely nonsense that only the Scots are getting the vote, because a break-up affects the whole of the UK...

I do actually. You accuse the Better Together campaign of lies but you have nothing to say about Salmond's lies. Interesting.

Your previous posts confirm my belief that many independence campaigners are voting with their hearts and not their heads. But as I said, I wont complain. It will stop all the whinging by Scots that they are ruled by Westminster and we can see how they will cope without being subsidised.
 
Not to go off topic, but I read that Catalonia wants independents from Spain. Interesting times we live in.

I'm not sure what lies Salmond is telling. To me attacking Salmond is a clear tactic of play the man and not the ball by the BT camp.

But I'm interested in what way Scotland is subsidised?

Either way, head or heart, the decision is down to having a possibility of making things better and making our own decisions, or remaining a shire of England.

Quite simply, no side knows what's going to happen until it happens so it's best not to jump to conclusions like you have obviously done.
 
Chris, Sorry to intrude apon the healthy debate, As you might already know, I am of Scottish descent, with both my parents emigrating from there. I am know Scottish culture like the back of my hand. I often talk to my family still living there and have British nationality.

I married an English woman, the absolute best thing that ever happened to me....

Now, I have thought long and hard about this referendum, wondering that if I resided there, would I be voting aye or no, truth be told, I would have been voting for the No side.

This being said, after listening and watching numerous tv and radio stations and hearing how the English are bitching about let the Scots go, the Scots won't make it, The Scots are a welfare nation, We don't need the Scots..... and after watching The PM rushing up to Scotland to save votes...... I would easy lose my intelligence to the referendum and vote for the SNP, I do not like them by any means...... but when it get's to a stage when even my English father in law is ranting about the Scot's not being able to make it..... I just want to don my kilt, Light the fire and vote YES!

The Scots are a highly intelligent nation, and I reckon the Government in Westminister need to Scots more than what the Scots need them at this stage....

I am/was pro union, but *&^%, the English and their politicians are starting to get on mae wick!

Of course we can, but do we want to. And I felt the same as you for a long time about voting 'no' until the threats started and the BS flowed.

In the event of a yes vote what happens to the rest of an independent Scotland if Aberdeenshire (where the oil wealth is centred) pushes for further devolution of powers as is currently being mooted as an alternative?

No, it was never imagined that someone would allow this type of silly populist vote to go forwards. Everyone is kinda shocked. But David Cameron used it as part of his election campaign and now he has to finish what he started. If Scotland pull away Im pretty sure we can expect a labour government in the next elections.
