Screamer ADSL

So according to helpline tech, the speed issues are related to "upgrades" which have been going from Friday afternoon. The explanation was not very clear on whether it has anything to do with the public / dynamic ip's or not, but they did say it was part of the expansion for new clients. Hopefully we will be up and running by the end of today. I did mention that communication on the matter for existing ADSL clients was again insufficient (actually non existent!)

lets hope it is the same as last month - out for the 1st day or 2. Then flying.

Well... I have had it. My AfriHost account has been verified. Hopefully everything will be running smoothly from here. i will keep my screamer account active to see how it goes. I am just way to patient with people it seems.

Hi Guys

We tried to do some upgrades over the weekend when not many of our corporate clients were on=line and as luck would have it one of the upgrades affected our residential clients speeds. We have fixed it.

As far as the public IP's are concerned we have indeed received our larger range and will soon be running the BGP updates which we hope will take no longer than 3 days after which we should be in a position to start allocating them.

Telkom has to be involved in this process and it could take between 3 to 4 days for them to get their side done so we are probably a good week away from allocating them.

I'm getting MUCH better speeds over HTTP now. Things are looking up again, hopefully this means the upgrade is finished.

Im still waiting for my account... Its been 15+ days now ive lost track. I don't have the strength for this anymore... how can i cancel my app? do i mail [email protected] or what?

Yip - thats what I did. They'll mail you back a sorry letter and you are done. I am going to be checking them out again in the last week of Feb. If they have public IP's & they have been running strong for at least a week then I'll probably re-apply (if they don't have another waiting list that is!). Basically if they can't connect you within 3 days they are not really ready IMHO.

I'll check on the int latency

Thanks for the call Howzit, was really good to speak to a human from Screamer... NOT

You really should try the feedback option with your clients. I would've been fine with a call but when i get promised something and then nothing happens, my blood boils.

My speeds are still crap needless to say... lets see what speedtest says

with NOTHING running except firefox... can't even receive mail ffs... this is peeing me off

1931ms ping to JHB...
0.15 download
0.07 upload

Afrihost

127ms ping
0.47mb down
upload very slow

This is with Outlook running receiving mail.

Eish.... just tried to COD-MW2 online - LAG - http://www.speedtest.net/result/702102692.png

Thought I would have a good game on tonight with the speed improvements. But the ping latency has shot up to 800ms (Durbs to JHB). I had smoother play over the weekend with the bad speeds.....

Edit:
Fark me... check out Durbs to Pretoria http://www.speedtest.net/result/702108796.png 1919ms ?!?!?
Durbs to Durbs just as bad http://www.speedtest.net/result/702111789.png 1895ms
Durbs to CPT same as the rest http://www.speedtest.net/result/702113467.png 1887ms
Durbs to JHB again - also worse now http://www.speedtest.net/result/702117620.png 1892ms :(

Er,perhaps gmail is down. Can anyone else connect to gmail via Outlook or internet? Please test for me..

my connection is dead now. what gives?
anyone else?

Mine was ok last night when i went to bed, i left an application to update through the night, but this morning it only did 300MB . So not sure what happened there, but my connection was going fine at 8am when i left, but i got the feeling it was down or dead at some stage.

But yea, as a few mentioned, pings are problematic. I did not check local specific, but internationally it was all over the show....still seems to be that 30% packet loss i'm seeing in game.

Download speeds on the other hand was very good when i checked.

And from the Telkom Maintenance thread, not sure if this has an impact on Screamer.

All connectivity died at around 02:30 and was only restored after 07:30, according to my traffic graphs.
