I'm having this problem at the moment with Screamer and Afrihost, but Telkom works fine. I'll try your solution
 
Adrenalin is lovinghis Screamer account right now. Been going at like 40kb for 12 hours...
 
This is starting to annoy me :p

can someone tell me if everyone is still natted behind a private IP, or do we all get our own dynamic IP now?
 
Quick question, how long does it take Screamer to call potential clients back? A friend of mine called them over a week ago and he hasnt heard a peep from them yet, and he is looking to have his internet sorted (in Delmas) as soon as possible.

Still private IP's. Promises regarding this come and go. It's been "2 weeks" ever since November. I am starting to doubt that they want to roll it out.

Heh, that's the area where most of these companies fail. The only way i got a response out of Screamer was PM'ing Howzit. I suggest you phone them, and keep phoning. I waited 4 days for a response after i signed up, only until i spoke to Howzit did he sort me out within a day.

Also if you phone them, and the person does not take your name and phone number AND look up your status on their system, but instead gives you some arbitrary excuse [like backlog/not taking apps blah] ..do NOT accept that! They should look up your application, and confirm it is on there at least. This applies to any company really, i've noticed alot of helpdesk operators like to "lessen their work" by giving some vague global excuse without logging your call nor even looking anything up in the system, but they will "call you back"...without even taking your number or knowing who you are.



EDIT: On a side note, my speeds are looking good this weekend. There was that brief dip on Friday evening, but since then all looks good. I'm not using P2P/Torrents, doing straight HTTP downloads from Steam, so i can't vouch for any other type of downloads..but from Steam it's going at 30-35 kB/s mostly.

Has anybody tried using newshost.za.net .nbz files? I tried using Alt.binz and GrabIt but with no luck. All I keep getting is a server timeout. I have tried with news.saix.net and news.is.co.za... Well, I even grasped at straws and used news.saix.co.za (I know this is wrong).

I would like to download ... Mandriva... yeah.. the latest Mandriva... Mandriva free 2010...

Anybody tried screamer on newshost yet? Does it actually work?
 
Your problem has nothing to do with newshost. This has been discussed ad nauseum in this thread no doubt. ;)

You can't use the IS or SAIX or Mweb or whatever other free local Usenet server with Screamer. You will have to pay for an international one like Astraweb or Giganews.

Ah... Thanks, Techrat. :) As long as I know that, I won't keep trying. Otherwise, my screamer is treating me well.
 
FYI... My 512 account is still going flat out... for 7 days solid now... about 20gig down and 3.2gig up in the last 7 days... :)
 
ok guys im on the "other" Cheap uncapped company (dont wanna mention DigiChilli in you territory incase i get shot :P ) but i was wondering whats the performance like on screamer i currently have a 4meg line and i wanna get the entry lvl package. Any one else have the same set up but on screamer please et me know. no BS i want it all, http (int and local), torrents (int and local) customer support (esp after hours) and also if steam, PSN and other apps like those run on screamer.

I don't have an account but I understand torrents are problematic because of their NAT setup, you can't get "connectable" in your client afaik.

Well for one, you will not get any more out of the 384 option even if you have a 4meg line (you will have to purchase a higher package to utilize your line speed). It has had its ups and downs. But has been very stable the last 7 days. I have managed a total of 23gig in 7 days. And that is 50% Torrents and 50% Http (Hotfile).

I will know by tomorrow how it performs for gaming (steam). Getting my 384 line installed finally (at home)!!! Yay - bye bye iburps!

Edit: as for support... they are weak in that dept.... but we can forgive them for that...

yea i knw i wont get my full line speed right now on DigiChilli i am getting 40 -60kbps sometimes and that has been at steady rate... int browsing is sluggish sometimes to the point of not even loading on DC but local is great. i get bursts on DC sometimes of speeds up to like 160 kbps like for eg last month i did 100gigs and this month i have done like 70 gigs already
