Screamer ADSL

SOOOOOOOOOOOOO SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

screamer is unbelievably slow, average transfer rate is 2kb on the 384 uncapped service :(

My torrents have picked up from 1KB/s or so to around 13-15KB/s. Still hoping for better. This happened (perhaps by chance) after I turned Netlimiter off. Will keep you guys updated soonish about what it's like once I get back to my PC.

Oh... And... who would like a line like this: http://www.speedtest.net/result/687326518.png
Unfortunately not uncapped though, but hopefully we can all dream of this in the future...

For crying out loud. I register to try out Screamer now Im on a "ADSL waitlist notice"... Can I expect my ADSL Account to be activated this week?

Its been 2 days already -_-. Anyways I will wait patiently...
I joined the cue last Thursday - nearly six days waiting already. They said to me next (this) week - so it could still be in the pipeline over the next few days.

Its pretty sad - a half decent uncapped account that has had major problems to date and we are cueing down the street for it. How bad is the SA internet...

um wtf? That's ridiculous. They should rather close new applications then accepting and putting them on a waiting list coz that's just rubbish, especially since you have waited like 4 working days now... Im starting to wounder if joining was such a good idea...

What you guys have got to realize is that they cant just add more users and add more strain to their current customer base.. as they upgrade their infrastructure, the more users they will allow... as it is we experiencing slow speeds today... whats the point of adding you and then you dont get the speeds you paying for and then pissing off the current clients by slowing them down?? Patience....

Like the first week of Jan... Than was such a pain. I get my account and the speeds are unbearably slow... slower than dialup often and less stable than dialup.

By the way...
UPDATE: Torrents now running at a steady 20KB/s+ and able to browse smoothly too. I was using Netlimiter and it seems to have issues with Vuze (Azureus). After turning it off, my speeds jumped from 1KB/s up to 20+. Awesome! :D

Edit: How about u guys that're experiencing good speeds actually comment on how good it is and how long it's been that way? this might help people see both sides. I've noticed that people only really complain over here when it's down. don't really mention when it's going well...

browsing speeds are ok...some international sites take a little longer..
youtube is also very slow.
is anyone getting full speeds on a 4mb line?

Well overall i can't really complain, getting good speeds on average. A few dips once every few days, but i did not need to switch to my Telkom account in the last 2 weeks, so if it remains like this, i'll comfortable enough to kill my Telkom account (or at least reduce it to 1GB)

I've managed to game -and- download at the same time just fine (Star Wars Galaxies/Everquest 2 and Steam downloading stuff in the background). Pings to those games' servers in the 400-600ms range [USA location] without any serious hiccups.

Browsing also generally fine.

Started dabbling a little on usenet [astraweb specifically] , connects fine, downloaded some pictures without hassles :). Will try out some more serious downloading from there later.

Note: i'm on 384kbps line.

My speeds have been rock solid for two weeks! The first week of Jan was a washout, but since they sorted out those probs, I have been smiling all the way. I'm on the 512 option and I average about 3gig a day, running both torrents and hotfile downloads simultaneously. below are my stats to date for Jan...

Yep, it looks like they are over their teething problems and I for one am very happy that they only add new clients when they have the additional capacity. I also don't see what is wrong with them allowing people to apply onto a waiting list. It's your choice whther you want to apply or not and I see that Howzit has placed a comment at the front of this thread that there is now a waiting list.

As far as speeds are concerned my home 384 connection fluctuates between 20kbs and 30kbs and my work 1Mg connection is between 70 and 90 kbs.

Hi Xeunox

Please PM me your account details so I can get a techie to contact you and try and identify why your speeds are slow.

trying to download a well seeded torrent but my speeds are going at 300b/s! WTF is going on?
can anyone tell me why this may be happening? is anyone else having the same problems?

Speedtests for right now [on 384] ,definitely something slow on international.

Johburg Server : 28 KB/s down, 7 KB/s up

London Server : 8 KB/s down , 1 KB/s up (almost timed out the test)

New York Server : 5 KB/s down , 6 KB/s (same issue as London)

So big issue with international side of things right now.

same here. something to do with the maintenance today?
that said my downloads are at +- 115mb an hour

EDIT: Switched to my Telkom account , same thing on international. So looks like it's not only Screamer [for me anyway].

Might be, i actually got an email from them about some upgrade (quite surprised)

Dear Screamer ADSL Client

Kindly note that due to a system upgrade on Wednesday 20 January 2010, you will experience a brief disruption of service for 15 minutes between 14h00 - 15h00

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.

Thank you for your patience.

Kind regards,
Screamer ADSL Support Team

Speeds have been quite decent for me recently. International uploads suck a bit, though.
