Screamer ADSL

perhaps I should recall my email application?
How often does this happen?

Are you on ADSL or WiMax?

Chris

I recommend you read a few pages back. Most of us have been waiting weeks for our application to be processed. So will you...

Thanks. I understand that there is a waiting period for ADSL. WiMax also has a waiting period, but according to Screamer they just need to schedule an appointment to install the equipment and there is probably a 3 to 4 week waiting period which I am ok with.

I am just worried about the quality of the service.

Chris

my screamer account works fine, had teething problems when they first launched, alot of people had complained about their downloads failing, i just use flashget and everything has been working fine, I decided to get screamer instead of digichilli due to digichilli offering their service for cheaper and hence the uptake would have been greater on digichilli- which can be a nightmare to a spudding ISP who could not predict the demand and therefore make the needed provisions for this?

Hi Shiveer

There is about a 2 week installation delay on our WiMAX connections but the WiMAX network is very stable because we don't use Telkom for the last mile and are able to control this and service it ourselves.

with all this talk of telkom upping our line speeds, will screamer be upping the speeds of the uncapped packages aswell.

wouldn't it be nice to dream on a friday on a slow 384Kbps connection that when telkom upgrade the 384Kpbs to let's say 1MB that the ISP will up their packages accordingly and charge the same amount.....

Hi Howzit,

I am not complaining about my line now, sure the connection speed is a bit erratic but for general browsing it is fine for me as I usually only use the net at night and my downloads run during the day whilst I am at work, when I need to browse i simply pause my torrents and resume when I am off to bed, Wimax is not an option for me as my Area is not covered by your ISP as yet and I require ADSL for low latency with gaming and VPN to my company - which goes through my Telkom local bandwith on a 4megabit line.

A suggestion I would make that would make this package perfect for me is if you could add "Bolt-on" services, such as access to a news server and Torrent to HTTP which could be seperate month to month charges. - would be even better if we could download from this at our full line speeds as the servers for these services would be local servers?

I think the monthly charges for these bolt on's would be necessary to avoid people raping your service and probably making the network unstable? and also to avoid free loaders, I as a customer would like innovation whilst other might like basic browsing therefore bolt on's would probably work for any ISP? you as a business can benefit from new customer sign ups and upsells of your product through these bolt on's.

Ok, now i have an issue...

My connection FLIES on afrihost and when i connect with Screamer, the torrents drop to like 10kb and less... anyone else? Howzit, can you comment on this?

speeds are slow yesterday/today, but on the whole it has been a good month.
i will stick with them still unless something goes horribly wrong.

howzit i think u should look at upgrading your ADSL usage tool...it is delayed and doesn't give accurate details.

Isn't Telkom fiddling on the big pipe again this weekend? [SAT-3 maintenance]. My current speed reseemble what happened earlier this month when Telkom was doing some fixing on the SAT-3 line. Could swear i read it's 29 Jan - 1 Feb. I believe previous time was about 18 - 21 Jan .

Possibly, but i'm sure we use blended bandwidth which includes Seacom...

edit: nope can't be that - this is my Afrihost account Speedtest for local (JHB) http://www.speedtest.net/result/699500643.png vs Screamer Account (JHB) http://www.speedtest.net/result/699444787.png

Afrihost to NY http://www.speedtest.net/result/699502119.png Screamer gets to about 90kbit/s and times out on the upload...

Edit 2: its just getting worse - Screamer JHB Speetest = http://www.speedtest.net/result/699503977.png
