Right so it look like subscribing to screamer uncapped dsl at the moment is about a bright as eskom's electricity planning... what would you guys recommend instead?
Well ultimately if all you need is to push through alot of gigs, then Screamer is still the cheapest option out there. With all the "distruptions" i still basically broke below R10 p/GB. I think a reasonably expectation at this stage is you'll get 40-50GB on a 384 line with Screamer if you schedule your downloads. So for R400 it's a good deal, but speed wise it's not great, it means 25KB/s....
My frustrations stems from when i get home and have 3-4 hours where i want to actually -do stuff- on the internet other than downloading....this is where Screamer always have something go wrong, be it disconnects, time outs, slowdowns or just plain non-responsiveness. Almost every night i was forced to switch to my Telkom account to do "the basics" and where i thought i'd probably never use up the 3GB telkom cap (which i kept for a rainy day)....instead i realized i had to start preparing for the inevitable cap that is running out....yet i am paying for uncapped...
I can only hope Screamer sort their stuff out, whether it's their contention ratios or shaping, but i certainly don't want to hear Web Africa smugly go "see, this is why our prices are as high as Telkom's, so we can offer a stable service" .

But I do like the "line rental included" part...
Well you must take into account they are locking you in with that sort of offering. If 2 months down the line you figure you don't need it or their service are poor , then cancelling is suddenly a whole lot more schlep. Now you will need to move your line back to Telkom , i'm not even sure it's even free to move your line around like that. At least with a solution like Screamer, if i don't like it, i cancel, no other "arrangements" required.
Also i'm not sure what happens if Telkom upgrades their speeds/bundles and your line is with someone else. So now Telkom might upgrade everyone's lines to 1 MB/s, but you're stuck on a 384 throttled offering.....
