Screamer ADSL

You can still send emails ?

Task 'Screamer - Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Using gmail and a Afrihost account.

What boggles the mind is that they are most likely just re-selling bandwidth that they getting from someone... so if their upstream provider is flying and you lot are all suffering... ergo... someone has their finger in the pie... but of course, unless we can prove it... they get to keep the finger...

On that note you could see the ISP when doing a speedtest. For some reason everyone who posted speedtest.nets in the last while have a blank ISP? Here's my speedtest from January:

http://www.speedtest.net/result/688724926.png

As you can see the ISP is "Global Web Intact".

Also, as for people wondering about feedback, i think this most likely WAS the feedback:

Screamer is having an issue with the physical link between Data Centre to Seacom, Speeds are being affected and Technicians are working on it. Upgraded fibre has been ordered with installation expectancy for 2nd week of March (Telkom the SP)

Part in bold....

Anyway i've also put in my cancellation, i suppose i'll still need to pay for March with the whole 30 day notice thing, but i'm sure i'll squeeze some GBs out the connection while i'm sleeping or something.

The public IP's do not show the ISP name, Only showed when we were going thru their NAT.

Went from Bad to Worse in the last hour....

Well that itself should be a problem right? I get public IPs from both Telkom ISP and Afrihost and both show the real ISP behind it. Afrihost show as "Internet Solutions" for in case anyone wondered where their bandwidth comes from :)

Do you think RPM/MyBroadband are going to man up and do some reporting on what must go down in history as SA's worst ever ISP?

Seems like they just copy-paste companies PR statements and peoples fraudulent crap, pocket some cash and then put their head in the sand when it turns out the milk is sour.

Here's an idea, Carte blanche : Consumer , this sounds like legal action needs to be taken against them! I know they are new to the Uncapped internet scene and had given them some credit for atleast trying, but at the end of the day, their little "experimental" network is not even fit for our third world country which is saying lot in since we are going to be hosting the world cup soon which BB being what it is I doubt we are going to leave a good impression!

yet alone the funds that I feel have been wasted taking a chance on a the under dog.

Looks like they have already tackled the issue of "Broadband"

or we could bombard them with letters and phone calls. surely they'll get fed up after a while and eventually start doing things properly

Why is it that i tried calling 5 times and only the sales person answered but the tech line goes to voicemail???

their customer care is non-existed, think investigative journalism is required here

what customer care??? it doesn't exist with screamer... no-one replies to emails and hardly anyone answers the phone. even when they do answer the phone they don't have a clue what's going on

Sounded like a plan....

What am i missing? That's 300kbps ? I'd love speeds like that on my 384 line.

EDIT: or is the ping?

Let me tell you straight out, just because speedtest can get a "theoretical" 300kbps means in no way that your ISP will deliver that consistently. It was more like a hobbling 5-10kB/s average in real life. With minutes between pages loading. The only Screaming I have done is at my browser waiting for a page to load.....

That f...ing ping is the beech! it should be at about 100 - 150 ms (what I was getting on Screamer 2 weeks ago) so its practically 300 times too slow!

And just to piss me off that little extra... Steam / IWNet / CODMW2 have a mother of an update today!! and I have to do two PC's on the 384 line! Currently downloaded 350mb @20% just for multiplayer on the one PC. Thank F U C K for afrihosts R29 for 2gig special at the moment!

Oh Ja ... and BTW 291kbps is 25% short of 384! So that is still a FAIL!

God don't even try SSH over GRE.... I don't know what's going on but fragmented packets just vanish into Screamers crappy excuse for an edge router.

Code:
Feb 17 22:33:51 coffee pptp[3966]: anon log[decaps_gre:pptp_gre.c:407]: buffering packet 252 (expecting 251, lost or reordered)

ROFL... My mom could design a better IP network than these incompetent morons.
