Screamer ADSL

I passed my findings on to Arthur (line 1 support) at Screamer, he forwarded it to Neels (higher up in tech dept). I dont think they were even slightly aware of the issue! How many of us sat for two weeks calling them every name under the sun for connection issues when the problem was not actually related to speed! Eish... Maybe its got to do with the specific ports that uTorrent use, or like u said about the amount of open and half open connections....

Nort, bitcomet is as slow as a mule now to... downloaded 800mb from 12 last night till now. that is pathetic. Cancellations can keep my email.

Ok so this is how it works, one connection at a time with bitcomet, flying... 2-3... 10-12kb.

wtf is going on? and why am i figuring all this out? Afrihost doesn't have these issues...

Yes. One torrent at a time. two, goes 'ok' but it goes at like 20kb... 1torrent, 35kb...+

Not to sure if this is just me or if everyone else is experiencing the same issue.

Afrihost - 25 torrents at once and all goes fine :P

That DOES point to a connection limit. uTorrent probably hits it sooner than the others. Perhaps the shaper or some other network device not able to keep track of all the connections?

What? I'm a n00b. I presume this is a Screamer issue... because it doesn't happen with Afrihost. [like i keep harping]

Maybe because uTorrent is going the decentralized tracker (or no tracker) route that TPB has moved to??? - magnet files...

Steam client: No response

Does anyone have issues starting the Steam or NNTP network news transfer protocol (port 119) client when connected/using Screamer ?
Also not able to use Newsgroups/NewsBIN/ NNTP (Port 119).

Since joining Screamer I haven't been able to start the Steam client or NewsBIN.

Issue 1:
Steam: The client would attempt to load, then hang, or hang after about 3% updating. Updating is also very slow. It rarely finishes updating and eventually the Steam client would just quit/disappear. 99% of the time it would just time out & quit. If the Steam client does start (1/100 chance) then games would either not launch, new games would start download but never finishes. The "preparing game name for installation progress bar would display and then nothing happens. Leave it for 8 hours, makes no difference.

Issue 2:
NewsBIN: Searches would display but nothing will download.

I suspect this is an ISP issue.
No issues when using 3G/HSDPA or another ISP.

My IP: 41.0.61.187, displays Vodacom Business Network.

I'm using Screamer's fixed wireless. It's not Wi-max. It's something like the Wireless Usergroups setups. I dish-like antenna on my roof pointed towards a high site about 5km (direct line of sight)

I have crawled the Steam forums, I have tried everything on the forum, even reinstalling Windows in the unlikely event. Made no difference. Everything was fine until I started using Screamer.
Offcourse, before reinstalling Windows I did all the advice in forums, editing the registry, backing up my files & settings etc (I'm using Windows 7 64bit).
All my locally installed, DVD-based games, are OK. Most of my MMO's (I love Guild Wars) starts up ok, no issues.
The point of me using Steam is to get rid of DVD's, tracking serial numbers and being to able to play my games anywhere on any machine I'm logged into.

I was even stupid enuff to accidentally delete my whole Steam games directory, with all 120Gb worth of games I bough and downloaded when I still lived in the UK. Those where carefree 16mb uncapped at home. I miss the old days ! Screamer, please give me the opportunity to download all my games again from scratch and to play them again ! I miss my Street Fighter IV, Armed Assault 2, GTA IV and many more !

I'll ask the techies if they have heard of this problem but I seriously doubt if there is anything on our system which blocks the Steam forums?!?

My issue is not with the Steam forums. My issue is with the Steam client as stated earlier.
The Steam client probably needs some ports opened, as per the link in my post. Why is the Steam client opening when using 3G, but when using Screamer it doesn't ?

Here are some screen prints from Steam:

When using Screamer, it rarely, if ever, gets past 5% updating:

This is what I expect to see, but I don't:

The Steam client:

And just to show you some places where the weather is much more pleasent than where I live, where it gets 37C every day:

Steam client: Screenshot

Here is my Steam client. The only way I got Steam started was to go offline from Screamer ==> connect my 3G to desktop PC ==> start Steam + updates ==> Start the initial installs for the few games listed above (which used up 102mb of my 3G's pathetic 2Gb cap) ==> Back on Screamer ==> 2k p/sek downloads, or stalling.
This is not acceptable.

En terloops, mij/my Steam is in Nederlands.

Just started Steam and it logged in fine after a while. Searched for updates, but found none, so somehow it's been kept up to date lately. It was slow, but I was on SL at the time and listening to streaming audio.
