SEACOM downtime continues

Looks like Axxess and Afrihost don't have any redundancy with SAT-3. No international on either.

Last weekend Mweb sent me an e-mail warning me of scheduled maintenance, apologising for short notice. I then received a cancellation of that and advisement that there would be one this weekend. But they did say that they had contingency plans in place. I never noticed any slow down at all over the weekend. Today my Mweb uncapped still happily moving along except for news groups which are not that important as I can catch up later.
So far I am happy

I have two accounts with Axxess, a pre-paid 1GB and their new Lite unshaped. This morning my Lite account is kaput on intl, so I switched over to the pre-paid one and it was working fine. I went out and came back to discover that the pre-paid is now also kaput. WTF is going on? Are they blocking the pre-paid accounts now too?

fibre is deployed in rings and so if a link is down the backup steps up and carries traffic. I dont know how other ISPs signed for their cable marine but they should not experience any trouble and be able to keep their clients happy.

Dont think SAIX is safe either

As does other ISP's using SAT-3 and not buying bandwidth from Telkom/Saix

I'm on Telkom/SAIX account and got no international. (same on my IS uncapped account)

Thank Goodness for Vodacom 3G

Both my uncapped accounts arent working. Thankfully i still have Vodacom 3G on my laptop. ;)

How long before maintenance is over and we have access again, us schmucks on axxess?

MWEB was fine for me over the weekend. But a bit slow though.

MWeb arranged for additional bandwidth via AS6453 (Tata communications). This really helped on Sunday afternoon, but today (Mon 26th) it is not enough for all the usual weekday traffic. Obviously the priority pool has shifted to business users as well...

My SAINET account seems 100% at the moment.

By the sound of things outage might now last till 30 April!! Thank goodness for contingency plans ;-)

hmm there is a problem?

I'm on Web Africa and have had absolutely no loss in connection.
I guess they doing something right ;)

Well im also connected thru them too but with their uncapped accoiunt & this morning the most i got a max download of 0.01kb/s, i would have better luck downloading with my fax machine than my adsl connection1!!!!

my question is, why cant they use what they were using before Seacom came?
