Since the arrival of Seacon my internet package has not become any cheaper, nor faster, whats new are the problems and errors from Seacon that never existed before, downtime, more like Pathetic Fail, this is why we as customers expect to pay alot less for this half arsed broadband delivery.
 
I am so sick of this ****... if its not SCREAMERS stupidity... then its this.. if its not this its than... this country is really turning into a shizzhole.

So much for playing World of Warcraft tonight. Should have stayed with afrihost, friend on afrihost still getting playable pings. I'm getting 5000-10000ms on mweb. :mad:

Seems a bit stupid of them not to have taken transit from the AS6453 router in Jo'burg. That way, they wouldn't have had to worry about building their own redundancy, and they wouldn't go down regardless of which cable is broken.

Most likely some temporary congestion on SAT-3 while the international routes stabilise (break was just a bit before the above post), rather than actually down. Back end of Neotel is the same Tata AS6453 that everyone is indicating is supporting SA traffic while SEACOM to Europe is down. BTW, the break in the Mediterranean is much bigger than just SA networks, but is affecting whole of Europe - Asia connectivity.

It has only been 7 hours since traffic stopped flowing on Seacom. Any outage that you may have had before that was not due to the maintenance. :)

Huh?? You may want to run this through a fact checker. SEACOM has been down exactly once since it was switched on - today, for the last 7 hours. FWIW, it's not even the whole of SEACOM that's down. Much of the international traffic that you are seeing flowing (including, for example, all of M-Web's uncapped traffic) is currently being carried over SEACOM from India.

What you have been a victim of recently is congestion on uncapped ISPs, some failures on SAT-3 - including a 24 hour failure, only yesterday (with the usual Telkom lack of transparency, of course), and a massive increase in demand generally. If you really are getting lousy service from your ISP, you might want to suggest to your ISP to buy more SEACOM capacity, actually.

BTW The failures of SEACOM connectivity to TENET earlier this year were Dark Fibre Africa failures, not SEACOM failures.

If you think about it for a minute, you'll realise that the only reason that you know what's going on with SEACOM is because you've been told, and you know what's broken, so you know what to moan about. In the old days, international routes would go down, and Telkom wouldn't tell you, so you just assumed that's the way it was. (Mind you, I suppose your typical el cheapo ISP nowdays is not much better at making things work, just has less money than Telkom to throw at the problem.)
