Second hand 4x4 bakkie

Hi guys, I am currently looking for a second hand 4x4 bakkie.
Things I need to consider:
1) Budget: Max is R350 000
2) Maintenance
3) I will be living in JHB so theft is a factor (uuhh uuhmm hilux )
4) Parts prices and reliability
5) Insuarance (not sooo big factor, but yea obviously one)

I have looked at various makes and models.
I am scared I get a second hand bakkie that will be just a moerse kopseer.
Like, is it big no no if the bakkie has engine oil leak and gearbox oil leak? Or is it easy and cheap to fix?

We never got the Amerian 4X4's in SA. Those ford 460's were beasts. Saw 1 or 2 Cummings F350's but no petrol ponies.

If it was my money, I would go for the Mazda or Isuzu. I would also consider the GWMs & Mahindras.

I might be old school, but when I think bakkies, I think Toyota, Ford and Isuzu. The Mazda about the same as the Ford without the dealer footprint. The Fiat/Mitsubishi seems good, but also without the dealer footprint.

Screw high hijack risk, its the best selling bakkie by far, because its most reliable one.

2nd choice would be Ranger 3.2XLT for that sync 3 system, but heard some issues with gearboxes and other stuff failing, but that's quite common with ford ownership.

I agree. The best bakkie out there! But its not lekker to see my bonnet messed up as they try to cut the alarm/hooter to steal it.

How is the new hilux models security?
