I dont understand why the content does not stay on forever?

Licensing issues. But I agree, it would have been awesome if content could stay forever. I have a dream that one day all movies and series will be permanently available on Netflix, regardless of the zone you are in.

They pay for rights on a monthly basis to the copyright holding studio. It's cheaper than paying for indefinite rights. So they look at the trends of viewership stats that tell them 80% of the people that are going to watch it on their platform have watched it already, so there's no reason to pay for additional time. There's actually some pretty interesting high level maths that goes into the analysis - if that sort of thing turns you on :p

Everything may not be on Netflix, but everything always eventually ends up on usenet for all eternity...

Reminds of the games industry. You can't find a digital copy of Marvel vs Capcom anywhere now due to licensing. Oh well, we'll have always piracy.

Except that most servers only store for about 3 years, then it is gone as well.

Netflix also removes shows and movies from time to time, it's the way the producers force them to play the game.

Well, we'll watch it in 4K on Netflix at our own pace then :p

at least they inform their users.

I have no idea when Netflix will add or remove content from their local Lite offering.
