68% is pretty low. My detection is set to 75%-80% depending on the camera. That being said I'm using Frigate and OpenVino.

I've played a bit more with the CPU use. I was a little confused why BI was still using 35-40% CPU use just recording, especially as I set it to record 'direct to disk', without any encoding. It turns out that the recording isn't using CPU resources, it's the displaying of the cameras that did that. By closing all viewing clients, CPU use dropped to around 7%.

Looking into this, a few BI users recommended using the substreams of the cameras for display when displaying a multi-view of cameras as above. The idea being that when displaying many cameras it's pointless to show the 5MP streams when each camera is using a lot less pixels being displayed in a small multi window. I enabled this and now CPU use has dropped considerably.

The images are a little worse, but clicking on each camera to view as a larger window automatically displays the 5MP stream as opposed to the 640x480 substream. Nice! As you can see doing this has hardly any impact on the CPU use now, dropping from 37% to 7% showing the same view. Furthermore, it looks like the BI machine is drawing 28W less now. Small saving but it all helps.

Reason this was potentially an issue for me is because I want to put a few tablets up showing some cameras permanently. Having the CPU work hard all the time was not the ideal and using this approach seems to be a good compromise.

Well, someone can be crawling around you property in order to 'avoid' beams around the house. That someone will have a very similar profile to that of your big doggie to be honest. Maybe try crawl around and see if it picks you up with the same level of confidence? It would be interesting comparing the results, and you get to answer the wife's inevitable WTF questions.

I'd imagine the models are trained for that though? Its picked me up as human while on my knees fixing irrigation.

I don't see much above 70% for any of the objects I'm monitoring - maybe I need to experiment with different models.

I have no idea to be honest. I'm only now starting to mess with it myself. I just couldn't help but wonder if you're getting a false positive because of the size of the doggie and how the profile looks.

Currently only have 4 cams but will eventually have around 10.

PC will run

Blueiris with AI.
Hass
Network sharing
Unifi controller

Either on Ubuntu with docker or unraid.

I know blueiris is windows only but I see a docker version is being developed.

Alternatively windows 10 with BI and the others sitting in docker for Windows.

IIRC BL Docker has been in development for years.
If you have Unraid its easy enough to spin up a windows VM while keeping the rest of the stuff on native Docker support (via Unraid).

I don't have much to compare it to, but I very happy with Unraid and my setup. If I had to do it again I would still use Unraid.
 
I see the Reolink camera's are on sale today. Are they often on sale or is it worth it to buy this today?

Been eyeing Reolinks as well - sadly no funds available at the moment but they do come on special relatively often

I think so - i will definitely have an eye out on that. I managed to spec 6 cameras and an NVR for 9k on Reolink.com . Amazon was 8.5k so i think there will definitely be some good specials

Reolink is free shipping but excl. import taxes.
 
I won't buy anymore cameras that don't have starlight/starvue technology.

The difference is really worth it
