You're right - the mask was set to /24. Posix removed the subnet route and added in host routes for the relevant WASP services.

wrt. moving the mail servers out of the 3G/GPRS range, well done! - how'd that go in terms of (not) being blacklisted?

'smpt.vodamail.co.za problems

I`m getting the following message when i try to send mail im using the program "Windows mail"


The host 'smpt.vodamail.co.za' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly.

Is vodacom having problems with there sever or is my settings setup wrong

Last time I spoke to Vodacom helpdesk they said that I should not be using smtp.vodamail.co.za but rather smtp.vodacom.co.za

I had issues where some of my mail was not sent at all :(
 
I use the smtp.vodacom.co.za for a long time, and did not have any problems yet. Don't know which is the correct one to use and not?

I agree completely. There is no reason that you have to be tied to your connectivity provider for your email address. There isn't even an excuse to be tied to your ISP's domain anymore. I've got a new thing now where I can offer email hosting and your own domain registration for less than R200 per year (all incl)

Thats pretty damn good, it would almost be tempting for me if Hetzner wasn't so slick. I'll file it in the back of my head for when the **** up.

smtp.vodacom.co.za was created to help people send mail when their own ISP won't do it from a foreign network.

So, if you can use your own SP's smtp, please do so. It'll help the load on smtp.vodacom.co.za.

We've not done it yet, but I'm still keen on (read forced to) block port 25 at some point. The whole vodacom IP-block is getting a bad name from people spamming directly from their 3G cards.

Good to hear, just moved one of my personal domains to them and immediately got pop3 problems. They've not resolved it yet but the people and their attitude impressed me. Their lack of IP is a bit worrisome, but I've probably not wormed my way into the right support layer yet....
 
Couldn't you block port 25 by default and then if people specifically needed it they could request it or be allocated a different apn? Presumably spammers wouldn't want a paper trail.

They generally seem to be decent, hosted with them for a while now and never had any problems. :)

Yes, it'll be the general idea. A whitelist of legit receiving smtp servers. Just worried about the potential admin overhead.

Also hard to explain to people who don't even know what an SMTP server is and want to know why it "doesn't just work".:rolleyes:
 
SMTP server for a vodacom4me data bundle

I have a 2GB data bundle, and I am trying to send an email from my phone, however when I try relay through my smtp server it gets rejected with a Spamhaus warning.

Is there another smtp server I can use?
 
SMTP error 452

I was trying to send an email (with attachment 50KB) earlier and got the following error:

The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was '[email protected]'. Subject 'Update', Account: 'Mail', Server: 'smtp.vodacom.co.za', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '452 Insufficient system storage', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 452, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

After a few attempts the message finally went through, but I was wondering what causes this problem. Is it a lack of disk space on the SMTP server, or does it relate back to my system? Has the server suddenly decided that I am persona non grata? Has anyone else run into this problem? I know someone who is complaining about a problem that sounds similar to this, but on the Telkom SMTP server. Is this a common problem - I don't always read the failure messages? Any ideas?

Try using smtp.vodamail.co.za , its the one i always use and dont seem to have any/many problems
