Isn't that where a serial killer was dumping bodies?

Sorry about the hijack!

I bought snoek from Woolworths at Sandton City yesterday for R50/kg if that's of any interest ...

There was a serial killer who dumped his victims' bodies in Wemmerpan.

Thanks, I 'll go to Sandton City and compare prices of CTFM with that of Woollies.

The only way to eat snoek is snoek braai. It sounds disgusting, but whichever way you do snoek, usually there is some jam in the marinade, usually apricot... and it works!! F__king well I might add

Not sure about snoek, but if you want fish then try microwaved fish fingers.
Delicious. :)

Wow you don't say! And here i thought we got our fish from Boksburg lake.

Thank god for SlinkyMike! Enlightening us eedjits one thread at a time.

Ok, maybe my post was a little terse.

Buying fish inland is a super-very bad idea, frankly I was stunned to see on my last visit that numerous Ocean Basket franchises have opened in JHB... Out of curiosity I actually visited one and as I suspected the fish was glassy and left my stomach gurgling for a full day after ingestion.

Now in the case of snoek, a fish that I wouldn't even buy at the harbour here in CT if there is any sign of softness or dull flesh or if the gills aren't a nice bright red... frankly if youre buying fish like that inland not only are you fooling yourself as there is no way that you can get fish fresh enough to prepare successfully (note: you may think you are but you simply know no better) but you are also risking making yourself, your family and friends very and hideously ill.

...verbose enough?

Agree with Mike, if it aint straight off the boat it aint worth doing anything with. You can try, but it won't be the same, and you risk illness.

Or stop eating fish all together?

Hmmm... Lived inland all my life, eat loads of fish, never gotten ill from it... Proves that silly theory wrong.
