Hi

I am looking to add solar panels for my pool, It is a meduim sized pool, Not sure how many litres, Approximately how much does it cost for the solar heating panels with installation

There's also the old school way of getting a few dozen meters of 40mm black pipe, coil it on the roof of the garage or outbuilding and plumb it into the filter return line with a pair of Y valves to bypass it when no sun.

Heat pump and solar blanket.. That's what I did. 31-34 degrees and my residential bill goes up to about 3K a month in summer. Initial outlay R20-R25K.

Sheesh. My residential electricity bill now at my old house is R600 a month. Hoping to bring that down at new place. Solar geyser. All my lights from solar and then now to see what Wil cost to heat pool. If too much I Wil rather push that into the house and bring total bill down further.

Can swim in a cold pool. That why it is there :P

I had 4 panels installed on my roof a few weeks ago. Cost was R3 500 including installation. Pool temp is now 29 degrees. I also have a solar blanket but to much effort too put on and take off. With the solar blanket and the panels on the temp in the pool gets to about 34 degrees.

I have a fairly small pool so only needed the 4 panels.

Will be fixing the gutter. Came loose with the strong winds we had here in Somerset west over the last few days.

Can you show picks from other angle? (like pipes etc) and what pump used? Just your pool pump? Do you run it every day?

Installation was done very neatly. Black piping on the roof and white piping all the way to the pump. They dug a trench from the house to the pump and buried the pipes.

They cut the return pipe to the pool and connected the panels up.

For rate was reduced a bit but understandable. Distance from the pump to the house is about 10 metres and then another 10 metres to the top of the roof.

I have a 0.75kw pump and have it running on a timer from 10:00 to 16:00 everyday.

Having trouble uploading pics on mobile. Will try later.

Thanks.

So you swim every day?

What if you don't swim?
Leave pump off?

Swim about 5 days a week. Took about 3 days to heat the pool up after the initial installation. If the pump is off for more than two days then the temperature drops to normal and will take another 3 days to heat up again.

With the solar blanket on it can hold the temperature longer without needing to run the pump everyday.

Looking at getting a new solar blanket that I can simply roll on and off.

Budget for about R1500 per panel.

Panels range from 2.5m - 5m in length

Dependent on the orientation of your roof and distance from pump to panel are things you need to consider when undertaking installation.

Not sure where you are, but here in Lovely Jozi, the F*#$ing rain is driving me nuts.

What I'm trying to say is that with so much rain, obviously the pool doesn't heat and the rain also mess with the chemicals in the pool, so I have to rectify after continuous rain. But with two sunny days, the pool goes back to 29/30 degrees with no blanket... I don't mind the odd thundershower, specially in the evening, but sometimes is too much... like a week of non-stop rain!

Hi Signates

Can you please inbox me the detail of the company that installed the solar panels for you. I would like to do the same for our swimming pool..

Thank you

I've got a 55k liter pool and 5 panels. At first I didn't have any cover and the water never used to increase in temp. Little did I know I had to put a cover on so I bought a 12.5kw heat pump. when I finally got to installing a semi auto cover, the water starting warming to 32deg without the heat pump on. So solar alone will work just fine.
