Hi,

Im going to buy a digital camera this afternoon (leaving for durban tmw), Sony Cybershot T33
http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/sony/dsc_t33-review/index.shtml. It says that the camera is Pro Duo compatible but the thing is I checked digitalplanet.co.za for a 512mb and they only have the gaming edition for the PSP and the Pro Duo Ultra II, just wondering if this will work on the camera and that i dont need to buy any adapters for it to work?

coz once im in durbz, i dont want any fuss about using it rather than just clicking away!

any help will be appreciated...

Ergh. Don't by Sony!
Get something better that uses bog standard CF or SD memory cards.

I would recommend Canon.

Yes they'll both work... I wouldn't spend extra on the ultra tho'
 
Yeah, Sony is very over-priced in this country.

Also try SanDisk although I don't know how they compare to the price with Canon.

I got a Canon a few weeks ago (A410) for R1399.00. It takes very good pictures in the day, but I found them quite grainy as the light decreased. Also, it was only a 3.2MP - which is quite low considering one can get 4 or 5MP cameras for R1500.00

On the whole, I'm happy with it :)
 
this sony camera is sh*t, but obviously you want something that slides in your pocket. Sony is good point and shot solution, but you can get a cell phone for that.
 
A camera is only as good as the lens it carries. There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with Sony cameras. Any Sony with Carl Zeiss optics is worth paying more for and will beat most (non-fluorite lens element) Canon P&S cameras hands down.

I don't think the camera in question got lenses :D it has probably clear glass in front of a cheapo CMOS.

this lens are not that good after all, no matter what brand they are, they are chapo lenses, obviously the sole purpose of that camera is to be portable, otherwise this is one crap camera no matter that it is with carl zeiss lenses

I have Nikon DSLR and I have seen Nikon lenses that are absolute junk and I have seen absolutely awesome Nikon lenses, so even though the brand is good it doesn't mean that the lenses are good.

If portability is not primary concern (it probably is in that case), I would never buy such a camera! I would much rather buy some crap cell phone with some 1MP+ camera if I want to carry some doggy camera in my pocket, and I will buy some decent lens camera like the Fuji S5600 for example which can be found for R3300 or so, or Canon S2 (I think) or something in that area. For R1000 more than this sony you get a proper camera that can shoot in low light, has proper flash, has proper zoom etc etc.
 
I challenge you to find a cellphone that can take pictures half as good as that Sony :)

Cellphone pics are ****. Always and without exception.

I agree but buying camera like that doesn't put you in far better position than a good camera cell phone! You get higher res, and some zoom, but you still have problems shooting in dark, the flash is crap if not non-existent, the zoom is small, well obviously you won't be doing birds photos with that right? If you want something that slips in a pocket, nothing is better than a cell phone, if you want good camera, buy one of the big zoom ones, even Sony H1 I think it was for R4000 comes with 12x zoom, 5MP, IS, much better flash and tons of other features making it usable in low light etc. as well as full manual mode in addition to the point and shot, far better value for money, but you can't put it in your pocket!
 
Well I don't think cellphone camera's are targeting the same market as traditional camera's.

Cellphone camera's are used for those embarassing/funny moments to show your friends and which you will delete while the traditional camera are for memories.
 
Howzit,

I appreciate for help and advice. The problem is that i had to go with that one. The place i bought it from had thier insurance policy which is too high for my pockets, so i put it on my household insurance and you have to state the model number so i did that yesterday and by the time i read all the advice given it was too late coz the insurance firm closed.

Anyways i think sometimes, something is only good as how you take care of it.

Well im off for a good drive from CT to Durban.

One of the most important things in any digital camera is the lens. You can buy a 7 Mpix camera with a bad lens an it will be crap. Carl Zeiss lenses are probably one of the better makes in the market so should be a convincing factors. Also check batteries and battery life time. It could get quite expensive if you have to replace 4 AA batteries every now and then, I prefer rechargeable that charge in the camera, but that's just me ... :)
