Starcraft 2 INSANE pricing???

So it doesn't matter at what price it does get released at you are not interested in paying for what is probably going to be a great game. You have already made up your mind that you are going to go the illegal way.

Of course! :p It's a great feeling knowing we pi$$ed you off as well! :D

Here comes MORAL OREL! Everyone grab a pedistal quick!

It's about time PC pricing met console pricing.

Errr...Excuse me.....are you High ?
Console fanbois trying to spread their game price misery with pc gamers....just pathetic Really.
You console losers pay a premium for games that work straight out the box on hardware that you don't need to upgrade, so stop whining about it and DEAL WITH IT!
I actually don't know whether to laugh at you or get angry...

Lol dude don't get your knickers in a knot. As previuosly mentioned, you are almost always guaranteed a fantastic game, certainly enough bang for your buck. As long as they don't slap a subscription fee on top of it I think it's a fair price.

"I'm so pissed I had to pay 3 times to see Terminator Trilogy, Matrix and LOTR".

It's a trilogy, get over it.

You can call it trilogy, but what it really is, is one game split into three games to make more profit. So in actual fact, its like paying three times to see the first lord of the rings :)

Regardless of what you've read in the 'tabloids' or receiving that reliable news from your neighbours cuzzies little brother, it's been stated in many interviews that the first compaign will be longer than the entire Starcraft 1.

So in other words, we are getting the LOTR trilogy equivalent.

Starcraft 1 had 30 mission, split into 10 missions per race.

Starcraft 2 "EP 1" will also have 30 missions with split paths for 1 race. We dont know the final numbers for the other races, but it will be roughly the same.

And missions won't be as linear either:

Srsly, I have no idea what you are crying about.

Lol, quite honestly I couldn't give a flying **** about this game since i'm not going to be buying it. I'm really just trolling, and not the one crying :)

Well the real question that we should be asking is; would the entire LOTR trilogy been as epic as it was if it was packed into 2.5 hours?

I doubt it.

Well for one it's the same game. Is there any real reason the same game must be cheaper on another format? I just don't think its fair that PC game prices are cheaper than Console game prices, add to that, when PC games reach "platinum" sales, they drop to a fraction of the original price. Console games rarely drop that much, only if it's a crappy title. Please, don't get me wrong, i'm not aiming anything at PC users, it's just a little unfair, don't you think?

To publish a game on either ps3 or xbox 360 the publblisher/developer needs to pay a licensing fee to MS or Sony. There is no such fee for pc games since the pc is an open platform.

The pricing of pc games is pretty much spot on for most locally released games. The distributors/retailers rape the locally console gamers though. Importing console games can work out quite cheaper while it will work out more expensive for pc games.

Also if you monitor the overseas retailers you will see console games actually dropping in price faster than the pc equivalent.

Uhm, Activision doesn't publish Starcraft........ Blizzard does. ;)

I seriously doubt that the price will be that high, so everyone can get off their soapboxes.

They are the same company now.;)

July 10, 2008 -- Paris, France and Santa Monica, CA - Vivendi (Euronext Paris: VIV) and Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) today announced the completion of the transaction announced on December 2, 2007 to create Activision Blizzard, as the world's most profitable pure-play online and console game publisher. So browsing Btgames' PC release schedule (http://www.btgames.co.za/btgames/release.asp) I noticed they added Starcraft 2 for a May release (I'm guessing this is a......guess on their part)....but what truly concerns me is I see it listed for R665! More than TWICE what pc games usually go for and while I'd heard rumours it'd be more expensive than normal............double the price sounds a little suspicious to me.

Anyone know if there's any truth to this crazygonutspants price?

Clearly you don't own any consoles ;)

You make a good point - it will hopefully only get better with each "pass" leaving us with something that is balanced and refined down to the tiniest little detail making either of the three race selections equally challenging and even better for the multiplayer junkies out there but for the more casual gamers (a.k.a non-koreans) we'll probably only play through the campaign - play a few online games and then stop after getting it handed to us and then just wait for the next entry in the trilogy.

My biggest fear with the game being split into three parts however is that we'll have to wait a fair amount of time between each instalment (not that I blame Blizz for stretching these out - it's about bringing in money on a regular basis right?). All I'm saying is that I hope this doesn't turn out to be a very long waiting session (like the Half Life 2 Episodes).

Yeah I don't really care either, but at that price, I wouldn't ever consider it.

God, sometimes, I really think you're a bloody idiot! I'm starting to see that more and more with each post you post.

The game was 1x full complete game, but then, outta no where, Blizzard decided, let's split the game, the excuse was "we'll be able to POLISH the game more" which if you really think about it means, well, we'll release 1 campaign, at the price of a full game, then, wait, let you all buy it, then release the 2nd game.

After all of this - guess what...

STARCRAFT 3!!!!!!!!!!

The goal will be to make as much money as humanly possible... THINK ABOUT IT BEFORE YOU POST MAN! Really!

To be fair Blizzard does make some awesome games that you play for years.

That said, whatever price set, I'll probably pay it because I am going be playing for years to come :D

Its R440 on bt games website now, kind of an expected price since activision loves nothing more than upping prices if they know people cant do without

I will pay the price at release, having loved SC for years, after paying R300 for the Battlechest. I paid R199 for the D2 Battlechest 6 years ago, an I still enjoy it. I'm sure the WoW fanatics are similary keen to get their paws on this, even at a premium. As long as Blizzard brings the quality of their earlier titles, it will be worth the price. If they don't, it could be the last Blizzard title I ever buy. And that is the simple truth that Blizzard considers when pricing the game

I'd expect those prices for Battlechests but not the price of just one installment of the game. I enjoyed starcraft but not so much that I'm willing to throw that much money away.
