Supersport streaming problems? Multichoice says "change your ISP..."

I saw your latest post about posts deleted. Please also point out that my account has now been changed on their forums and I can no longer post without a moderator first approving my messages, so Marietjie's claims that you're being unfair are nonsense. Why now change my account? Or did she change the thread settings entirely?

Actually my ISP is Openweb. He simply used AH as an example of a large ISP that doesn't peer with Level3. I am however on a capped account and have no shaping or throttling issues. If their service is designed to only deliver content decently through a select few ISPs then they need to be upfront about this...

This really depends on their agreement, CDN’s have various purposes. The core usage in line with the consumer is to make content available to the closest physical node (in truth the closest route). We have routing, peering, internet weather, capacity and availability involved when the route is chosen to the closest physical node, each variant can be discussed in-depth as it entails much more. Agreements to host a CDN entails SLA’s (service levels agreements) and naturally the customer requirements, but when you host a CDN you do provide the vault, who allows the packets in and out and per what security measurements?

You will also need to know that there is Mweb and then there is Optinet.

What does this mean? Their latest response:

Quick update, the guys are currently in discussions with their providers Optinet and Level3 and are monitoring it very closely at the moment. As soon as we have more info, we will let you know.

Let me start with Optinet, this management structure will explain:

Furthermore, Naspers business in regards with connectivity (broadband, hosting etc.) goes through the Mweb Group and not the Mweb ISP, this is where Optinet plays a larger role. Basically Multichoice is in discussion with the Mweb Group -> Optinet and their CDN provider, internal discussions...
 
A while back, I was having issues streaming supersport (mweb 4mb uncapped) so on a new tab, I found a live steam hosted in the UK which was basically some dodgy guy streaming a poor quality webcam view of the supersport steam on his pc. The interesting part was that both my local stream and the UK guys supersport stream were bombing out at the same time.

This is also my experience.
It's not specific to SA by any means.
Supersport just won't admit the problem is on their side.

I stopped trying to stream SuperSport. Its litterally the most amatuer and badly thought out streaming system I have used :(

I stream almost all my media... so am a well experienced streamer... but streaming SuperSport was always terrible experience.
 
Respect where it is due. Once Marietjie got involved she remained in contact, updated the thread accordingly, was open about the issue and provided a time-frame for resolution. That's the sort of thing that needs to happen more often...
 
I think the fact that many of us choose to use free streaming options over SuperSport streaming despite actually paying for the service.
 
Saturday I tried to stream the Lions Cheetahs game and it was buffering 90% of the time. Someone posted a link to a foreign stream which was working flawless (low quality but no buffering at all).
 
hey guys.. my 2c

cricket has been on the big TV at work streaming all day so far without any issues or glitches at all. We have 40 meg vdsl uncapped Afrihost account. Quality is reasonable for an 50" HD TV although no where near HD quality, its reasonable...

streaming from home on my 4meg uncapped webafrica account also usually works without issues 95% of the time, it does occasionally buffer or die, needing to be reopened but for the most part I dont have any issues with SS streaming at home either
