The message is not a lie! We do have a major crime problem as you acknowledge.

I can not see how it is wrong to use the WC to highlight this and hopefully cause the government to wake-up and do something about it. We all win.

Shame, pity your article states that those vests are to protect you from fellow football hooligans!

Soccer is not a game for the faint of heart. I mean yeah, I'm talking about playing it, but mostly I'm talking about even being interested in it. Everyone knows soccer fans are nuts and have a tendency to riot when they get upset, and the last thing anyone wants is to actually bleed to death when they get stabbed at one of these. Thankfully, getting stabbed can go from life-threatening to fun in just one easy step! All you need to do is put on your new team-branded stab-proof vest and you'll be ready for any kind of soccer riot that comes your way.

This is not a joke. You can really purchase these stab-vests that will protect you from a stabbing by fellow soccer hooligans. And on top of that, what better way to provoke the fans of your hated rivals than to wear your colors and flag on the vest. It's almost like saying "hey, come stab me" without all those annoying words and conversation.

But the marketing for those should probably appeal to you as they will obviously also need to use scare tactics to sell their products!

honestly though, I couldn't really give a damm if tourists gets stabbed, if they keep the criminals busy for a few months and out of our hair then so what?.

But it doesn't say any tourists where targeted. And he would have to give stats like these otherwise tourists wouldn't buy them now would they?

Stats aren't released ronjay, that would be discrimination, because of the nature of the stats.

I took the time to click through to the link provided on that website and found some more interesting statistics seeing as though no one else is providing facts.

Now of course this study confirms that there is crime, which no one has disputed, but if we look in a little more detail some interesting snippets of information are available (unfortunately cannot post the screenshots of the PDF in this subforum) :

So 65% of murders are linked to social activities (drunken behaviour, love triangles, domestics etc). Only, and yes one is too many, 15% are related to other crimes.

So crime is down substantially since 1994. So why is it that people say crime is now spiralling out of control? Perceptions created by negative posters like the kind found on here? Feel free to click through the the link and read the two other facts given which show that the stats may actually be even better than reported.

I'd honestly like to see some stats pre-1994. They are so damn hard to find and you can be sure as heck that the ANC put their spin docters in there whenever they compare pre and post apartheid.

This is the problem we have.... people will only believe stats that say what they want them to. I can say with almost 100% certainty that stats pre 1994 would not be worth the paper they were written on. Remember that prior to 1994 the loss of a black life was not worth reporting.

I don't believe "stats" I just believe myself ............

Just answer me a simple question: Why "pre aprtheid" we went to Hillbrow 2am in the morning with many restaurants still opened and we walked on the street without any fear? Can we do the same now? If you could answer, then you answered why we never trust "ANC's Stats - post apartheid -> less crime".

I've noted people in other countries have the same perception of crime in their own country.

How likely is it that they kept reliable information, particularly on crime in non-white areas?

Why do some areas rise while others fall? I'm sure it must have been studied. It happens in cities everywhere.
