Telkom 8 Mbps out the window

I spoke to a techie today who said that 24Mb will be offered where possible for businesses.
 
I live near Johannesburg CBD, *Hillbrow, dont ask*, my router is auto-synching up to the DSLAM over ADSL2+. Its ADSL2+ RIGHT NOW. So yea.

Also, you people do realize that thousands of kms of fiber have been installed over the last couple of months?
 
i don't believe this, here in Cape Town they are laying fiber all over the suburbs, i noticed yesterday, at a "parkie" 500m away from my home there are 3 new rolls dumped

something is happening

p.s the durbanville telkom exchange is less than a kilometer away from my home

why would one build a huge HUGE fibre network and not utilize the speed thereof?!?

its like getting a new Golf GTI but your only limited to 120km/h ;)
 
Flip it, I started reading this thread and after page 5 I looked at the date.
 
I have been living in the Uk for the last 3 years, and I have got used to my uncapped 20meg line. (Only costs me £21.50 a month - Which is about what I spend on lunch in a week. sandwich, crisps and coke costs £3.00 - £4.00) I am moving back to SA at the end of this year, man its gonna be a hard change to make

Dark fibre africa is planning to lay an extensive amount of fibre in Durbanville.

why are they doing this in residential areas???aren't they doing businesses only? and i must mention...these fibre tolls are different colours...blue,green and orange
 
Yes, I want faster download speed, but need faster upload even more... hell, I would easily take a line that has 4MB upload and 512K download...

Blue is Telkom
Green is Vodacom
Orange is Neotel
Yellow is MTN
Red is MWEB
Brown IBurst
Grey is IS.

I may be wrong on the colours, but a contact on the inside shared with me that each company is assigned their own colour for the sheething. Standard colour for private cables is Black. But then again, if you have black you obviously don't have the ECNS waste of paper...
