Telkom ADSL Performance ??

s/Telkom Internet ISP/SAIX/

Everything is working to spec here.

We know of one technical issue at SAIX (that requires some financial processes to be concluded to be addressed), but we have been unable to get conclusive answers on whether this technical issue can be causing the behaviour you and a few other users (madala, lilggg) have been seeing. As far as I understand the SAIX design, it should not be impacting local traffic, only int.

I haven't looked through all your posts, but could you point me to a speedtest result to both the Cape Town and Rosebank SAIX speedtest servers (or from just paste the results from http://capetown.spdtst.saix.net/) while connected on your TI account, with no other downloads running. Please PM me either the TI username you are using, or your IP address at the time of the speedtest (PM'ing me your TI username would save me some time as I don't need to consult the traffic accounting database). As usual, a traceroute may also be useful. I can't promise anything, but we are trying to resolve these issues (taking into account other workload, problems in highlighting the scale/impact of the problem to multiple different units in the company etc. who don't necessarily have the same - or non-conflicting - targets/priorities).

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Will get back to you.

Tested again with the same poor download speed. Then I got 8Mbit:

TI -> Cape Town SAIX

Download Speed: 8381 kbps (1047.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 853 kbps (106.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 8 ms

So nothing appears to be wrong there, of course we know there is something wrong though. Like for example I can't load this stream at 720p and I see my bandwidth trickling in at like 20KBps. http://www.twitch.tv/dragon. Why if I have 10Mbit? Also often I cannot even stream 360p on TI 10Mbit, while my MWEB 1Mbit flies. I also notice other differences between MWEB and TI, MWEB is generally faster with MyBb, Facebook, Google etc.

A birdie says there should be an improvement by tomorrow morning (if not tonight). I would appreciate feedback from anyone who does see an improvement.

Dudes if i can give any tips on the quality of your line just look at your line attenuation on your router settings, if its 50db and lower it means you have an excellent line unlike mine that is 63db then its utter crap, but it still gets the job done.

In most cases, we have ruled out (either by SNR and attenuation rates, or by local-only, or by testing with a different account) line quality issues.

There was a real problem until yesterday. From metrics I saw today, uncapped should be sorted. Capped accounts may still be experiencing bad international, and there are more improvements coming (I think one tonight).

For TI uncapped users still experiencing problems, we will probably need to look at DSLAM congestion and backhaul (but, most likely line quality will be ruled out first in most support procedures).
