Telkom considering free 10 Mbps ADSL upgrades

384 and 512 users should be pushed up. waaaaaaaay up!

To be honest, if they up the lower speeds as well to something respectable then I'll drop my 4mb line. The only reason I have it is cause of the closer deals, either 384 or 4mb, 384 is a waste of time so I had to go one up to Closer 5...

So when do we get this 2011 2012:confused: its great telling us the trails were successful but hows a date or time line on which parts of the country will get this service??

I want 100mb connection... what is up with this slow upgrades... milking as we get there I see ;-P

This just doesn't make any sense?

Why fart around with 10Mbs when the next logical jump should be 24Mbs ADSL2+?
Just as you start rolling out 10Mbs, the competition is going to to start offering realworld 14Mbs on cellular broadband and 15Mbs FiOS from Neotel and others.

Your latest greatest offering still leaves you lagging the competition!

I suppose the best we can hope for is that they drop the crippled slower speed profiles entirely and bump up the upload speeds significantly.

Glad to see I'm not the only early bird/going to bed late member.

What's the point of introducing 10mb when some 4mb customers (like myself) cannot even sync at higher than 1mb? This "upgrade" will mean nothing to me unless I move to a different premises, as I've exhausted all possibiliets of Telkom fixing my copper.

All you are complaing about the speeds!!!!! what about those wo can not even get a line??????

Rather upgrade/extend the infrastructure, than line speeds!!!!!!

Not to sound like a spoilt brat .. that just want everything now. But why months?

My 4Mb line only syncs at 2Mb.

If they upgrade the ADSL technology here, what are the chances of getting a faster sync ?

For example 5Mb on a 10Mb line ?

Zero.

Your issue is either the distance from your premises to the DSLAM (length of copper cable) or the condition of the physical cable and joints between your premises and the DSLAM.

Because hardware and software needs to be upgraded. A lot of work has to be done to make these things work!

We have a 4Mbps line at home, but I'm not that excited about the upgrade. Sure more speed for free is great, but it is still cheaper bandwidth I want.

We have a 148Mbps international line here at the University of Stellenbosch, which will be upgraded to 600Mbps by the end of the year :D

The fastest download I have had was at 7.2MBps. Sweet!:D

EDIT: Here is a screenshot of the campus download speed record when they tested it last year.
