Telkom Does 3G with Do3G

Luckily i saw this forum. Vodashop phoned me just yesterday to come pick up my modem and sign the 24 month contract. I think il rather wait for telkom as it seems like a far better deal!

Just some more info for 2009: From Telkom:
We are getting close to 50 base stations that have already been deployed in the Gauteng metropolitan area.* We plan to have in excess of 200 base stations by March 2009, primarily focusing on the Gauteng, Cape Town and Durban metropolitan areas.

I went to the telkom shop and the lady told me they cant gaurantee when it will be available in my area.
She also told me that the advertised prices exclude the modem. So I have decided to go ahead with the Vodacom 3G contract, picking up my modem this afternoon.

I still have my Do1 account so when the 3G kicks in i will just convert that account.
You Joburg guys are lucky.

So you'll be able to use your existing modem and just swop the sim?

From what the telkom shop lady told me I will get a new modem(That white one, hawuei i think its called).
When this will actually happen is anybodys guess, she said hopefully by end of Feb 2009.

Cant wait to give vodacom the boot... a 7.2MB line for 30% cheaper. And you dont have to worry about the back haul from the towers... seeing that they own the cables.

Well its much cheaper than existing offerings from other providers. Lets just hope they get more coverage quickly or rather lets hope the other providers drop their prices quickly so we can rather support them...

Screamer WiMAX prices are still cheaper than this and we have'nt increased them for 2009:D.

500 MB R143.00
1 GB R190.00
3 GB R420.00
5 GB R570.00
10 GB R1,025.00

I'm pretty sure theres a 2GB option as well.

I thinks its R320 for 2 Gigs as opposed to VC and MTN - R389.

Where the deal becomes sweet though is the 3 Gig package. VC charge R589 as opposed to Telkom's price - R420.

I moving over... thats for sure. Just waiting for it in my area!!!

Hmmm! That is sweet. Can't wait for them to come to Cape Town.

I suggest you check the price you have been quoted for Telkom's 3 Gig package because according to their web site it is R489.00 and R0,30 per Mg out of bundle. http://www.telkom.co.za/products_services/w-cdma/do_move/cost.html

Screamer's price is R420.00

Does Screamer cover the Western Capw?

Sorry Python but we are waiting for our I-ECNS licence before we deploy in the Western Cape and we expect that to be around May this year.

We currently cover Gauteng and Pretoria and also from Harrismith to Polokwane.

Their prices seem reasonable. So if they do deploy here I definitely will sign up.

What technology would I use to connect, to get it at a price of R420 a month. 3G or WiMax?

Also what would the connection speed be at?

We have deployed a WiMAX network so it would be using WiMAX technology.

The speeds differ depending on whether you take a Capped or Uncapped package.
On the Capped packages you can select the speed you want (up to 2Mgps) at no extra cost. It just means you get through your cap quicker.
On uncapped you can also select your speeds but obviously the faster, the more bandwidth you can get through, so the higher the price. We try and give our clients as close to the speed that they requested. I am on a 1Mg line and this is the performance of my connection.

You can get all the packages at www.screamer.co.za

Thanks. Screamer uncapped version is 4X the amount of Neotel Prime uncapped at half the speed.

I'm looking for a the best solution for under R 500 per month, which screamer is not bad at. Next question, is it available in Durban?

I wonder if we'll ever get a Telkom rep on here to clear things up for us wrt when they gona start rolling out in CT.

Telkom probably axed them.. xD

What about this Screamer technology ? Will I need to buy an expensive modem or something and does the company intend to support a prepaid option like telkom will in march ?
