Telkom FUP cap errors

Has anyone else noticed the Telkom internet error when calculating your internet usage?

Step 1: Login to https://customerportal.telkomsa.net to see what Telkom has decided is your usage for the month.

Step 2.: Login to https://userstats.adsl.saix.net/ using your telkom adsl credentials and you will get your actual traffic use.
I have tested this manually by disconnecting all connections and then restarting my connection to confirm... and it is the correct amount of data. You will notice it is roughly half of the value stated in the Telkom website....

This results in users being throttled for exceeding the FUP when in fact they have not done so.

For example i have an Uncapped 4MB line which i have had no problems with for a few years until last month.
(It is a 4MB line and yes i have confirmed the lines speed at several times using https://speedof.me/ and other methods.)

If anyone else has experienced this or has any idea how to fix this please comment.
 
Hmm interesting, according to the portal I used 65 Gigabytes, where as user stats shows a combined total of 28 Gigabytes.

Potential story here for MyBroadband news team.

Thank you for confirming this. I have tried to investigate further on http://www.saix.net/.
It seems the SAIX usage value is the correct value, as it is the actual amount data that passes through the exchange for your line. This includes all overheads such as packet headers etc. The Telkom portal value appears to be incorrect and way too high.

For your case Telkom is off by 37GB (or more than twice the actual amount). This will probably cause the FUP to activate before the end of the month at your current usage rate, assuming you have a 4MB uncapped line like myself. I am curious to see if its only those on Home uncapped 4MB who are seeing this or if its all ADSL customers.

Hopefully someone can explain this. At this point we can only assume that an error has crept into their data usage tracking software since last month.

Note that changing or upgrading the line speed between 4-10MB as mentioned in other posts has nothing to do with this issue as this involves the amount of data.
 
Via the telkom portal my usage for December was as follows.

Fixed Usage - 788.78GB
Night Surfer Fixed - 135.49GB
Total - 972,78GB

Via the Userstats portal my usage for December was as follows.

Combined Usage - 726.38GB

That is a 246,4GB discrepancy and is quite alarming. Who do we speak to as this impacts the FUP and is quite dishonest IMHO.

I lean more to the telkom reading being correct.

That is a difference of approximately 86GB....
I would expect the values to be the same.
I have tested the data exchange both upstream and downstream on my connection and the SAIX value appears to be correct.
It would be great if someone from Telkom could explain how the portal usage values are obtained...
 
Saix: 125.67 GB
Portal: 195.16 GB

Would be interesting to see the December stats as I did about 600 GB on my 8 Mbps line.
 
December portal - including night surfer - almost 600Gb
SAIX - 387Gb
Current portal with night surfer - 280Gb
SAIX - 195Gb
 
I've only ever hit FUP1 once about a year ago at the end of the month when I reset my Xbox and had to download all my games again. Last month I hit 940GB. Now I'm already at FUP1.
 
I have never hit FUP ever and I stream every day, if you look at Telkom internet they tell you to login to the Portal, I am not sure where this saix thing fits in, I do not use it as it has nothing to do with Telkom internet.
 
My data usage so far this month according to telkom is 143gb day and 70gb night.
Userstats say 132gb combined.

Not only that but telkom shows my data usage for monday is 33gb.
Not only did I not use that much, but it is physically impossible for a 4mbps line to use that much.

It would take 19 hours and 40 minutes of fullspeed download to reach that amount on a 4 meg line, but there are only 17 hours a day before nightsurfer kicks in.
 
I did notice something last month for the 1st time ever, my cap suddenly reached & stuck at 97.x Gb and slowed down and so it stayed till 1 Jan, instead of at 100Gb. It corrected on 1st of Jan, but only 5 min after midnight time.
 
Same here first time in years that we have hit FUP1 and that is in the middle of the month
