I don't know anything about networking but what's the benefit of having that dns on or off ?
Here's a brief description of what ddns is about - http://www.internet-computer-security.com/VPN-Guide/Dynamic-IP-Addresses-VPN.html

TI's xxx.mydns.telkomsa.net option provides ddns automatically when using your TI account. Problems arise when using multiple ISP accounts as TI only knows the last IP they assigned you thus the need for the services of 3rd party providers; DynDNS, No-IP, DtDNS and the like. Note that most modems only cater for specific DDNS providers - usually "paid for".

For some users who only have one concurrent connection, this can be an easy way of being able to access something on their network, without requiring support from their modem or installation of software on their devices or pay for additional services or change providers when changing modems.

Obviously, we can't know about seasions on other ISPs, and about the only way to do this without software support on the modem and configuration is to use the session information.

Sorry to hear that, I hope you will still be lurking and provide insight to problems were possible even though you can't assist.

BTW I'm really happy with my move to capped, haven't seen any change in performance levels but the savings are worthwhile.

Signed for 10mps uncapped + data + analog for R799 today. They said should be active 3-4 days.

Can I get the telkom integrated sim for this deal?

Yes but it's capped at 5GB normal & 5GB nightsurfer per month other than that the R799 deal is great value.

Is it free?

5Gb should be fine for me, then I can give my wife the 50gb mtn sim. Then when my dual call sim is active, I will have the other sim in the car mifi :p

In my case where Telkom/TI thought I had a dodgy line (actually only the voice side was giving problems) the sim and a DWR-730 modem were. I don't recall seeing anyone talking about a charge for the sim at a Telkom shop either.

There's no itemised line item on my monthly bill so it's free in that sense as well, it's listed as a WiFi Zero sim on My Telkom / Mobile Products.

That is sad to read... thanks for the invaluable contributions and assistance over the years.

Seconded. Having industry insiders and leaders here on the MyBB forums enriches the experience for us all.

Ranger's contributions have always been that little bit better than many of the reps here I suppose because he was here unofficially, freeing him just that little bit from having to toe the corporate line.

Whenever clients complain to me of Telkom issues one of my "go - to" places for info has always been here to see if Ranger has any info on it.

So thanks, Ranger, and may that grass taste better in your new pastures green!

Sorry I am noob to this forum, and am about to (slightly) violate a rule, but here goes. A year ago I was a Telkom/Afrihost subscriber. The 4 mb/s connection worked well enough considering line loss would have supported 20+. That is except when the copper pair was stolen, and then line attenuation was much much higher. And stolen again. And stolen yet again. Once I went out and replace a segment out outside plant on my own, that is how slow Telkom was to get around to fixing things. They eventually refused to fix it or contact me. Except for monthly invoices. So sad. Telkom could have replaced copper with aluminum or better yet, fibre. But no. So I use a WISP, pay more, but the family that runs it responds to fault notices. FWIW I found the wisp via scanning the spectrum via my Mikrotik and 5.x GHz antenna. IMHO by not having a suitable non copper replacement in high crime areas, by denying service to informal settlements and their neighbors, they are helping to guarantee that the only way smarter kids will get ahead is by cooking drugs and stealing copper. No good for SA. Not good for the world. Not good for Afrihost or Telkom.

@MickeyD - not really TI related, move to Telkom ADSL area problems forum maybe?
