Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Weird Telkom password setup!

So, I log in to http://www.telkom.co.za/today/

Then I scroll down to Activate Dynamic DNS where I land on TI Service Management Tool page where I'm asked for my username and password. I then enter the username and password my router uses to log in to my Telkom account and I'm told I have an invalid username or password.

I then called 01210 and went to the reset password option and tried with the password sent to me and neither my router or the TI Service Management site would connect. I then went back to 01210 got hold of a very helpful lady and asked that shet enter a password I would give her, at least that way I should know what the password was! So we did that and my router would not login to my ADSL account.

I then reset my router config to backup copy of its settings which was created on 23/12/2016 as a precursor to changing the password to that set this morning. My router proceeded to load the backup settings file and then it merrily logged in to my Telkomsa account! With a password which was set on 23/12/2016 (or earlier), but definitely not that of today.

I then went back to http://www.telkom.co.za/today/ and wended my way to the Activate Dynamic DNS and am once again told that I have an invalid username or password. I tried thwe settings which the router is logged in with as well as the password the Telkom lady setup, without success. I also tried the username/password combination I used to log in to telkom.co.za.

It appears that I can access most things other than Activate Dynamic DNS

Any ideas?

Well it's not updating atm, when I ping xxxx.mydns.telkomsa.net it's resolving to 105.229.61.196 which is not my current IP - not unusual.

I prefer to use a combination of paid for No-IP and free DtDNS (belt & braces :)), both have proved very reliable over the years.

Do you think that the ddns problem would affect the passwords too?

At the moment, due to limitations on the 'Enterprise Portal' regaring SSO, it doesn't really help to log in there. It may be best to log in to customerportal.telkomsa.net .

However, any activation features (mailbox, DDNS, Static IP) are still not avilabe directly there but all Telkom Internet tools that proivide functionality not avilable there yet are linked there (but we won't do any enhancements to them like SSO).

Please PM me your username and I will:
- See if there is an easy fix
Or
- Activate it for you

If there is any serious work involved, we would rather spend the effort to get activation features on the new portal (probably 2-3 months away) than invest in obsolete code (minimum of 3 weeks for minor change with the current rules/processes).

It's been working quite reliably for me for the past few months. Ability to force an update of a stale record should be available in the new portal when DDNS gets there.

@Ranger

It's not the DDNS that's the issue, it's the telkomsa.net password. I've tried resetting it*via the various forgotten password links as well as via*10210 agent who*manually reset the password to a code I gave her.*My router would not connect with any of the new passwords, so I reloaded its settings from a backup I created on 23/12/16, whereupon*the router immediately connected, which means that the password can't be changed, or that the login being used by the router is not the same account as that for which the passwords are being changed. Is there any way the same [email protected] account can exist on the Telkom network?

As far as I read (sorry, on tapatalk, can't easily review previous posts now), your account is working on your modem at present, but you can't use the same credentials on SMT?

Did you try any other tools (customerportal.telkomsa.net or tracker)?

SMT has some bugs and is old and crufty, and authenticates a different way than everything else, so it can be that your current password will work everywhere else. If this is the case, one root cause for this could also prevent password changes for your account from propagating.

This is one reason why we hope to move it's functionality to customerportal, which is modern and clean and easy to develop on and test.

I can't investigate anything without a username though ...

Is your ppp session up (or intrrnet light green)?

If the modem is syncing but the PPP won't come up, the most likely cause is the DSLAM or MSAN backhaul to the esr/bng is down.

I don't know anything about networking but what's the benefit of having that dns on or off ?
Here's a brief description of what ddns is about - http://www.internet-computer-security.com/VPN-Guide/Dynamic-IP-Addresses-VPN.html

TI's xxx.mydns.telkomsa.net option provides ddns automatically when using your TI account. Problems arise when using multiple ISP accounts as TI only knows the last IP they assigned you thus the need for the services of 3rd party providers; DynDNS, No-IP, DtDNS and the like. Note that most modems only cater for specific DDNS providers - usually "paid for".
