Telkom Internet Uncapped User Feedback.

Confirmed as severe throttling. At 7am my line died again.

I remember when I signed up there was a thing on throttling to 50kb during office hours, I'm getting 50bytes if lucky.

Come next week and I'll log a complaint with ASA.

So what's the benefit of having an uncapped line if they're going to softcap (ie. throttle) them right along with the capped users?

Is this an issue they are currently working on or is this how the network is going to work?

Since they don't communicate with clients, and its been like this since the 1st of Feb, I'm assuming its the future.

Great news (for me). Telkom gave me a test account, and it actually works. P2P and everything else. I notice it gets the 41.x.x.x IP range. So go ahead and get that test account for the mean time...

Tried to play some online gaming last night on PS3...
4meg line and download speed was 1meg with upload speed of 1ookb/s...
switched to Afrihost account and immediately got full speeds...

This is certainly not leaving a good impression.... would it not have made sense to sort this out before offering the new packages?
Or were the new packages an incentive for people not to leave, because of the poor product.

So far on a 4Mbps line

Positives:
Latency: Local - 60 compared to 211 ms previously
Int - 209 - 220 ms compared to 413 - 700 ms previously.

Gaming (PS3):
COD MW3 now connects for me. Haven't tested COD BLOPS 2 yet
GT5 worked great with no lag, but only 7 racers on grid.
all other games I tested before still work grt

Streaming / Videos:
Youtube only stream without stutter at 240 or 320p. Might be my poor dl speed?
Supersport streams without any stutter

Browsing:
Most of the time okayish, nothing great.

Downloads
Haven't seen high Http downloads speeds in a while now, but have reached full speed at times, but mostly in the region of 80 -115 KB/s
Can now download from Google Playstore (Android store) via my phone using wireless..

Negatives:

I apparently have an exchange problem, but my dl speed is even worse under uncapped conditions
My upload is good, but download is terrible.
Mostly terrible connection speed to gaming servers (according to PS3 speedtest)

Totally weird:
I have an Afrihost capped account as backup.

A couple of years ago, I used the app called "Traffic Splitter" created by Padda. I used it to split a "Local only" account from my Telkom international account.

Haven't used in a while though.

Yesterday I logged my Afrihost acc details into my PS3 via PPPoE method and immediately got a 3Mbps connection. HAven't seen that since about August last year.

I used the same PPPoE method on my PC, but the speed was back to 0.41 Mbps, same as TI

I then used the Traffic Splitter app and pointed Afrihost to International and Telkom to local and I received the 3 Mbps speedtest on Intl again, but local (Telkom) was 0.41Mbps. Both accounts are for Intl and local use though.

I then reversed the accounts and Telkom was now Intl. I received a 2.8 Mbps intl rating and 0.4 Mbps rating on local using Afrihost?

I have since discontinued the Traffic splitter and are only using TI uncapped with the slow results as posted.

If my exchange is buggered why am I getting close to full speed when I combine the accounts via Traffic Splitter?
Why only high speeds when I use traffic splitter?
Haven't tested it again, might over the weekend again.

And now COD MW3 (PS3) can't connect again.

Mine has picked up a bit today....

P2P seems fine again too.
I noticed last night when viewing Netflix, that it took 3 minutes to load a video when i moved the tracker along to the middle of a movie.
At midnight, It took 10 seconds.

I certainly hope the reduction of price on these accounts is not an indication of a decrease in quality.
However, Ranger said they are aiming to match or better their previous service, so i will wait a little longer.

http looks to be like completely unshaped.....Don't want to brag but my usage is @ 140GB so far on http download and its still going full speed. I think the account is not too bad although I do fear I will get better performance and speed with Webafrica's IS based uncapped account. IS seems to be rock solid now.

COD MW3 servers still can't be reached.
Google Play Store updates (Android) are failing again when updating via wireless

"upgraded" to the 4 meg uncapped today. Wanted to upgrade to the 10 meg uncapped but Telkom said this isnt available yet. Is this true?

As for my 4 meg uncapped: currently struggling on p2p (10-30 kBps), can't connect to saix at all (and only get 10 kBps max on Astraweb), can't connect to the Mac Appstore or the iTunes store at all.

Once again all farts and no poo from Telkom.
