Quick question to ranger perhaps, is it possible to have your Telkom analogue line and Adsl line combined into a Do Broadband package instead of having to cancel both and registering for a new package ?

yes its possible

Ranger, just a heads-up: My brother couldn't connect to any of Ubisoft's UPlay servers for Far Cry 3 multi-player today. The service would launch and then just hang and I'm thinking it's timing out with TI bandwidth. Swapping over to Afrihost data solves the problem.

I must say, my 4mb account has been working extremely well since the weekend and still going strong. I will, however, give it another month or so to see if it remains consistent enough to move to permanently.

I agree.

Although my Exchange is apparently congested and as such have terrible download speeds, I do receive the performance in accordance with my speed tests.

I'm not into to torrents anymore, but did a test today just to check and I definitely get the same speed as Http downloads.

I think at this stage it does seem that that all the Telkom ISP technicians and whoever were involved with the network change, really did a great job in a relative short time.
I know some of the guys in the WP are still experiencing some problems, but as Ranger said, they are working on it and hopefully have it sorted by the weekend.

Well done TI.
:)

As far as I know (which is a bit, not *that* much), as long as you end up with the right components, the discount kicks in.

My net went down 00:39 and it was still down this morning when I left for work. @Ranger care to comment, I'm based on the east rand.

How do you sign up for just the Data Portion with Telkom? I have my line with another company (which everyone says you must not do - but when you sit on the phone for hours trying to get hold of Telkom - You end up not minding that you can get hold of a company to do all the heavy lifting for you). But how can I sign up with Telkom uncapped but only buy the uncapped data?

I read somewhere that it can't be done, but I do not know if the info is correct.
It would not make sence if you can't do it though.

Decided to take the plunge and move from 10mb Capped account over to 10mb uncapped.
I didn't expect same speeds I was getting on the unshapped account.
BUT this is what I get for R999 (over R1000 incl. line rental) ....

Fault has been created with Telkom and someone should be coming to see me.
If nothing happens by end of next week, reckon I'm heading on back to capped account.
Not a chance this is R999 worth

Oh ye and had the account since Thursday 5:30pm and haven't been able to even watch Youtube...

Its very possible as I have that...... Just tell them you want the stand alone uncapped adsl package. They will tell you you need your line with telkom WHICH IS NOT TRUE. I battled with 7 consultants until 1 guy gave me the stand alone 4Mbps Uncapped account for R369

Can you post a traceroute, or confirm if you see wblv-ip-hsll-1 as your approx 4th or 5th hop? If so, you are going through Cape Town, which would explain things. There is some work happening tonight to address part of the problem in that site, but it looks like it may only be fully resolved by Monday.

I have moved over to telkom from the 1st of February and things were working alright until about last weekend (the 9th and 10th). I am using the 2 Mbps uncapped account and live in the Johannesburg area. I am getting speeds of way below 1 Mbps:

2511212197.png

Http traffic seems to be working alright on some websites, however on others it might take 10-20 seconds before the page loads (this happens on both international and local websites).

Because of the varying speed, steaming vidoes or watching YouTube videos is not possible (it ether does not load at all or it takes too long to buffer the video).

P2P does not work.

Latency is mostly alright, and performing tracert test shows nothing out of the ordinary:

I have tested my line using another account (a pre paid account from Axxess). When using this account I get average download speeds of 1.7 Mbps. This suggests to me that the problem is with Telkom ISP account and not with the physical ADSL line. ranger, do you have any suggestions?

Want to get the 2Mbps package from Telkom. You guys think it's a good idea, judging from your experiences? I'm in Cape Town.

Wait until they sort out their issues in your area and see the feedback from existing users in the next week or so before making up your mind.

Ok this gone a bit beyond a joke now and just plain bull****!!!. Get home today to notice my line not syncing and when it does no Internet at all. Past few days has been ok but today an absolute abysmal mess. To ad insult to injury have left the speaker phone on for a combined total of 46 minutes and when I finaly do get through to a gentleman called Thomas he asks me for my number as per usual them proceeds to drop the call on me. Someone please sort this crap out!
