Can you post a traceroute, or confirm if you see wblv-ip-hsll-1 as your approx 4th or 5th hop? If so, you are going through Cape Town, which would explain things. There is some work happening tonight to address part of the problem in that site, but it looks like it may only be fully resolved by Monday.

Well found out how to do it (traceroute).
Here it is:

No Joy Tonight

Yeah, so I am considering moving to Telkom uncapped and tossing all my various accounts and routing etc.

At this point it looks like I might have to hold off on that thought.

I keep my FNB connect 3GB and my Afrihost 1GB monthly free accounts handy for times like this, looks like it is time to setup some multiwan configs on my routers instead of simplifying my setup!

Hi Ranger. Now what now again...download speed almost died this morning from after 12 pm, at one stage running 5-20kb/s on 2mb/s line? Any idea what is happening? We had a period of good speeds, albeit after 6pm every night, but this is a BIG letdown

Yup something broke a few minutes ago. Speeds are down to almost nothing and latency even local has skyrocketted

[...]

It might be a cable break? cause it happened instantlly and is effecting capped and uncapped users. My 14c 1Mbps Gconnect IS account is working well with EU latency @ 200ms

There was a (local) cable break from 13h13 until 22h03 yesterday, so we were running at half capacity for the Gauteng region.

A fibre from Rosebank to us was damaged around 13h10, repaired at 22h10. We are not sure what caused the damage yet.

I am still having speed issues with my 2 Mbps uncapped account:

I know the problem is not my line because I get full speed when using another account.

Hi ranger,
ok so am running a telkom 2mb uncapped account.
Been having an awful ping since yesterday (17th feb) and ping STILL is very bad (around 250ms). Ping has been around 300-400 ms and the speed has been catastrophic too.
Here's a trace to telkom server:

Sorry am running a german windows, but you can see that the ping is still bad.
There is also another confusing thing, so I am located in Cape Town, but when I run speedtest.net it shows that I am located in Gauteng?! Never had that issue in my old place before....how can that be?

Just to repeat what I said in the other thread

I'm in Howick/Merrivale just a little up from PMB. Still have problems here

Just upgraded to 4mb Uncapped speed too, which was great up to the end of last week (when the speed dropped around Friday and Youtube hasn't worked since the 17th), now the absolute max I can get is 134Kbs

My modem syncs "511 / 4069 kbps" but still only getting 1mb speed at best

Also why is Youtube so messed up? I can still survive at 50kbs, while whatever is happening seems to have cut off downloading and uploading to Youtube and even watching either fails or takes forever?

The exact same thing is happening to me.

You are softcapped. I **** you not, you are being softcapped. Log in to https://secure.telkomsa.net/titracker/index.jsp

My account is doing the same thing. My line is 10mbps, my account is 4mbps, but because I have downloaded over a certain limit I am being limited to 1mbps (128KB/s).

It's a JOKE!

This must be illegal!

If this is true (on an uncapped product) then something is VERY wrong somewhere!!!!

I seem to be in the same boat. I only have a 1mb line/account (uncapped) and I too have been softcapped according to my Usage Tracker.

Is this since they discounted the accounts? I'd rather go back to paying more for my full line speed.

I'm basically back to the performance of my previous account which is really disappointing. I hope this is just an error and will be resolved quickly.
