Regarding that softcap... It appears that 200GB is the limit before throttling takes place, but I can't read this anywhere on Telkom's site (apologies if I haven't looked hard enough...) Is this true???

That was an assumption made by MyBB members based on their experiences in February, I suspect that the TI dev team initially responsible for implementing soft-capping on capped accounts only have been rapped over the knuckles and uncapped account behaviour has reverted to the pre-February model for the time being.

Oh, clearly I had that wrong. Thanks for the information. :)

In this case... Could I get an indication of the amount of GB's downloaded before severe shaping/throttling occurred? (2MB TI uncapped account)

You'll find long term TI uncapped users a secretive bunch :D ... rather ask if any 2Mb uncapped users got over 200GB and were not throttled (I used to get over 300GB/mth on 2Mb uncapped prior to February and was never penalized in any manner - now on 4Mb uncapped).

I suspect it was the 24/7 down-loaders that were targeted but that's just my opinion.

Thanks MickZA. Have you ever got throttled yet on your 4MB uncapped?

Only got it in February and did over 300GB with no sign of throttling. Have to say I'm very happy with the new QoS TI have implemented and will possibly downgrade my TI 20GB capped account I use for business to 5GB depending on how TI uncapped performs in the coming months.

Thanks for the feedback. I'd definitely be playing games online. I'll report back once I've got some information about this.

I applied for the 2MB uncapped account + line at Telkom yesterday. R459 a month is actually a really good deal.

What I was most surprised about was the fact that the DSL line should be ready by Thursday afternoon / Friday morning. Yay internet for this weekend!! :D

However, shame on the person that processed my application @ Telkom Direct, Bayside Centre, Table View. He told me to pickup my modem on Friday. That automatically told me that he was signing me into a 24 month contract, which I obviously don't want! Thank god I put the brakes on that...

Regarding that softcap... It appears that 200GB is the limit before throttling takes place, but I can't read this anywhere on Telkom's site (apologies if I haven't looked hard enough...) Is this true???

you sure its R459? so its come down from R607? that crazy since that was the 1mb uncapped price.

edit. its without line cost

Phone and make sure you are on the correct package, i.e. 4Mbps line speed and 4Mbps uncapped account. There have been a few errors lately!

I agree. I had the same problem. I was on uncapped basic instead of premium. Since then full speed.

@Mickey
Telkom is upgrading our congested exchange tonight. They phoned me 18:00 to inform me.
Not sure how I get fullspeed now, but maybe my latency will improve now as well.

My exchange at home was just upgraded to 10 Mbps so cancelling 4 Mbps MWeb Uncapped and going with http://telkom.co.za/broadband/offer...lans/uncappedbundle/do-uncapped-premium-plus/
which is only R35 more expensive than the combined total I was paying MWeb and Telkom for 4 Mbps uncapped.

Never really do more than 200GB pm so guessing I should be ok and escape the soft cap.

Lucky fish.
:D

Nobody have reported being soft capped this month afik (in this thread).

Either the guys are more cautious or TI is not so trigger happy this month.

You will definitely be safe with 200GB

When I spoke to TI yesterday regarding my Do Uncapped premium, they mentioned that they removed the soft cap. Would like confirmation on this.

Yep, R459.. Thought it was a pretty good deal. But unfortunately, I'm having problems.

The line got activated on Friday night. Only tried the line out on Saturday morning. First thing I did was a Speedtest, got around 1.6Mbps down and 0.5mbps up. This lasted for about 45min before the line dropped to 0.6mbps down, with no bursting of a higher speed.

Maybe I haven't been signed up as a 2mb uncapped user..

I've already logged a call with TI, though I should probably call in to follow up.

Restarted my router several times, no difference.
