Why the secrecy? Many of us want to know this answer >.<
This is just a guess, but I don't think it is about secrecy.
I think Lino has found an ISP that he is very happy with and do not wish to post that ISP in the TI thread, which I think is very decent, assuming I'm correct.

Aah yeah I see his other post, unfortunately my time with that ISP was not so great since they "used" to halve line speed after a certain usage limit was hit. All I really want to know with Telkom is if this soft cap thing really does exist and how much data do they deem as "acceptable" for 2MB/4MB before the soft cap hits. There is so much variation on this information throughout this thread (seemingly from line problems more than an actual "soft cap") that it's difficult to actually find the truth.

I'm actually the wrong guy to post this, as I don't hammer accounts.
I can tell you from what I can recall.

During February, when the reduced accounts were announced, accounts were softcapped.
Nobody can say for sure it seems, but the general formula was:
1Meg = 100GB
2Meg = 200GB
4Meg = 320GB

Those formulas were not perfect, but were sort of representative.

It seems that option has been dropped by TI and afik nobody has bees softcapped this month that are on an uncapped account.

I did about 120GB last month and just under 80GB this month, so you will see I'm not a heavy downloader.
My speeds are great and haven't suffered at all at any stage.
Some guys have done 3 times more and haven't complained about softcapping, nor any speed complaints.

1) Prior to Telkoms new ADSL offerings in February I am not aware of anyone being throttled or shaped by TI on uncapped accounts according to the GBs they used, however many line and other faults were attributed to this.

2) In February only the capped accounts were supposed to be soft-capped, however some uncapped users were informed they were soft-capped by the TI tracker and suffered a degraded service. After much bitching here on MyBB the TI Tracker no longer functions on uncapped accounts and speeds returned to normal before February month end.

3) Since the beginning of March TI Tracker still does not function on uncapped accounts (use http://userstats.adsl.saix.net/ instead) and no confirmed reports of TI soft-capping have been posted.

My gut feel is that soft-capping on capped accounts was not implemented properly by the dev team responsible and the situation was made worse by comments from the infamous TI help desk reps who really did not know what was happening and were trying to get irate users off their backs.

Only time (and maybe ranger :)) will reveal the future of soft-capping on uncapped accounts.

That, my friend, is an A+ breakdown in valuable info! Everything I wanted to know in one place. Dude, you're like China Town:D
Thanx mate!

I have asked this before, but haven't found the answer yet. :( Anyone know if u can take a uncapped bundle from Telkom and incorporate your current ADSL line into it? Would really help me lots :D

The Telkom billing system and the level of competence of the person assisting you determines what is possible, it should be possible to to add a DO Uncapped Basic/Advanced/Ultimate to your account if your ADSL line is with another ISP but it depends on how they interpret the prompts on the system. Best to ask in a Telkom Direct shop.

If your ADSL line is with another ISP (eg: MWeb) Telkom cannot sell you a bundled solution as your ADSL line (011 xxx xxxx) is flagged as "in use" and MWeb would have to return it to Telkom before they can assist.

Thanks for the replies. My adsl line is with Telkom. Thus, I was just wondering if they can just incorporate it into a bundle or if I first goto cancel my adsl line and then get a bundle :confused: :D

In that case you're all set. Just don't sign up until April 1st otherwise you'll be billed in full for March as well (Telkom don't do pro-rata).

You are a legend, this needs to be stickied somewhere for others to read.

I think the initial soft-capping was a ploy to keep the hogs at bay. Brilliant strategy.

A valid theory, I don't recall any long time TI uncapped users complaining and commented at the time that it seemed to be the 24/7 downloaders who'd moved to TI in February to take advantage of the new pricing that were being targeted.

Given Telkoms track record with communicating to their users I doubt we'll ever get the full story (unless ranger lets something slip :)).

I have not been soft capped this month and i have abused it to see when i will get throttled.This has been the best uncapped experience i have had even though i cancelled all my telkom services!
The best connection (in my opinion) during day time,I could stream netflix,hulu plus and youtube.
Afrihost,imaginet,plugg,axxess,webafrica or openweb gold just can not compare

I've been pushing to get to 200GB - so I can see if there is a softcap on the 2mb line, will probably finally get there tomorrow.
