Glad you guys are having fun streaming...

I am on about 45GB on Telkom 2mb and youtube is useless, funny thing is I can still download the youtube vids at fullspeed but not stream them.

Its the same thing for a buddy on the other side of cape town.

Well dammit, I upgraded to 4mbps Uncapped, and it seems I'm being throttled on p2p. Only did about 40GB, and I have been getting about 60KBps on torrents since 7PM.

I thought it was Seacom problems, but on normal HTTP international downloads I get 450 - 500KBps.

If this is actually the case, Telkom is losing yet another client. And all was going so well for me before this...

Has anyone else had an issue where Telkom is still billing you for the uncapped data after cancelling? I'm having this issue and they are rejecting my disputes even though they can see it has been cancelled but billing continues.

So far so good since my sign up on the 19th.. 4MB uncapped - no signs of throttling @ all

Is it only me or has the net gone downhill suddenly?

I hope someone can tell me if this is right or not.

Yesterday I made the stupid decision to move from a 2Mb Capped account to a 2Mb Uncapped account. Now when I run a speed test I get the following results :
Test conducted on 28 March 2013 03:32:59 PM

Download Speed: 879 kbps (109.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 415 kbps (51.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 30 ms

I been trying to download a patch from Apple and I get a constant speed of 115k, whereas a download I did before the move to uncapped I used to get about 170k.

What I'm interested in finding out is if this is what a 2Mb Uncapped account should run like or have Telkom done their usual and stuffed it up again? And yes I did phone them and spoke to a person in each and every department and they all swear blind that I am on a 2Mb Uncapped and it all working fine on their side.

Those speeds definitely sound like 1Mb uncapped running on a 2Mb line.

Could be semantics at work here ie: they're saying you're on a 2Mb line and have a DO Uncapped data account.

Question is which DO Uncapped?

Phone again and check that you are on DO Uncapped Advanced (not Basic).

I finally reached the limit and my torrents are throttled. But browsing is running very well. (actually running torrent at 1/4 line speed and still browsing with no problems.)

Total downloaded (2 MB uncapped) - 386GB
Total uploaded - 45 GB

from http://userstats.adsl.saix.net/

Youtube streaming very well.
Have yet to test gaming.(however have afrihost 1 GB per month for that)

Very happy with new setup and don't mind the usage limit and its better than last month (Did go abit overboard this month with HD torrents and HD youtube.

from http://userstats.adsl.saix.net/

Sessions 68
Online Time (Seconds) 2305073
Upload (Bytes) 42 197 320 122
Download (Bytes) 405 036 548 014
Combined (Bytes) 447 233 868 136

The bandwidth consumption on your uncapped account has reached a stage whereby it is having a negative impact on the general performance of our network. In terms of the Telkom Internet Acceptable Use Policy, your account will be managed in a manner that allows us to optimise network efficiency for all users.

I did check with them on that, and they say it is a Uncapped 2Mb, although I didn't check the if it was advanced and not Basic. Will call again and make sure once more. This is just really silly :(

They incorrectly loaded your account (if you was limited due to abuse like me than you would have to download at least 200 GB). goto a telkom shop and tell them the account accidently loaded as 1 MB uncapped and not 2 MB uncapped. Happened to friend of mine

also changing to uncapped was a very good decision. Create a free afrihost account as a backup account also easier to top up and use if telkomISP slows down for some reason

Pretty sure you meant GB, but I agree that's really pushing it :D

BTW: any warnings or are you basing your conclusion on torrent/http speeds?

In that case you're all set. Just don't sign up until April 1st otherwise you'll be billed in full for March as well (Telkom don't do pro-rata).

yes they do pro rata. its just be warned that its a bit ridiculous to pay R120 for 2 days is all.
