Well i spoke to someone with half a brain cell, so i have an account now.

Sorry? Why would I want to trial a new product that could go FUBAR when I have no problem with my MWEB uncapped. The guy I spoke to at Rage was of the same mind as he's not sure how well this product will work.

They should not have a problem with capacity, My problem is why are they more expensive that our current uncapped accounts. This obviously not aimed at being competitive as usual.

Because there isn't shaping.

Their 4MB & 10MB accounts are aimed at Business users, announcement is imminent before end of Oct for a consumer priced 4MB account. Their 1MB & 384 is fairly priced. It isn't only about pricing but the kind of performance that goes with it.

Yes MWEB has great performance but there are users with issues.
OW is great with performance but there are users with issues.
Same with Afrihost etc

Now we wait patiently for Telkom's verdict which i believe will be pleasantly satisfactory. :)

Remember this isn't a NEW network the product is being launched on so it goes without saying in that respect :p

Sorry about delay.

I dont use speedtest as its a load of ****, but in any case the speedtests where not that amazing when testing against a cape town server, had 45ms and like 60kB/s download that was 10mins ago. I am currently downloading from my FTP in the states at 61-67kB/s constant. Obviously its not 10pm yet. So far im happy with this product im not a download whore i dont need the entire internet. This beats openweb and mweb hands down in my eyes right now purely for reliability. I believe that IS is WAY over subscribed hence all the issues people are having currently

Worth mentioning i did the test against web africas server.. and well they have gone down the drain with regards to quality.

Because my telkom account seems to be performing better than mweb or openweb?

Hey thanks for taking the time to do this, really appreciated :)

I think now we will see users spread out over the different backbones. :D

I signed up for the 10mb account. Will let you know asap.

if the 1mbit accounts runs at full speed locally, i might buy it, my gaming does not need more then a 1mbit speeds.

news.saix.net i will make it work overtime :P

Local is not restricted and saix has the best news server.

What account did you go for again?
Also, are you downloading locally or from international? Remember local in unrestricted

I did mention in my previous posts i was downloading from my FTP in the states. I dont download anything local, nor do i use new servers.

and its the 1mbps account.

Well enjoy the honeymoon phase! I guess they will probably pick up that they still need to throttle to 1mbps otherwise they will lose out.

But yeah. Enjoy downloading from your ftp at full line speed while you can :)

Just to clarify, you're getting full line speed (3Mb in your case) between 10pm - 6am and not being limited to 1Mb as would be the case with the IS & MWeb 1Mb accounts?

a temporary glitch or something groundbreaking, i guess only time will tell. Lets hope its good news and these account continue to behave like this.

Being on the largest, fastest network while all the heavy users are stuck in contracts with now dead slow Mweb, means that the Telkom uncapped users might just have an extremely long honeymoon!

Dude, this is Telkom we are talking about... Oh and I'm with 'dead slow mweb' pulling over 150gb a month on 1mbps... Also, I can leave them whenever I want should I decide so...

But I will definitely keep an eye on this thread and if it continues as such, I may consider moving. But for now I'm happy on my 'dead slow mweb'...

For now though the Telkom site has been updated but abit broken too lol

Goto http://www.telkomsa.net > Our products > Access Services > Uncapped.

They should really do a overhaul on their site :(. Bastards :p

s/should really do a/are doing an/

Maybe im blind but i still dont see uncapped on the pages you specified. Nevermind i had to bit the browser into compatibility mode. ****ing lame.

What browser/OS? Displays here fine on:
-IE9 on Windows 7
-Firefox 7 on Windows 7
-Firefox 6 on Linux
-Chromium 11 and 14 on Linux

When i said broken, mean't main links don't point and you have to go via drop down menus to the relevant sections of the site :p. I checked now, they haven't simplified the process either.

Other than that issue, we hope they do an overhaul as the site is lacking ALOT :p.
