Telkom Lte deals?

On my one Telkom SIM I get (checked these last week) :
Under LTE / LTE-A Bundle prices
10GB+10GB = R249

The 5GB+5GB=R301 is under "Once-off all networks" on mine, so you're better-off checking pricing once you get a SIM. You might be fortunate and get the 450GB offered at R59 (for 30 days) on the SmartBroadband Wireless option - just depends on the SIM you get ("luck of the draw", these days).

Once you've tested Telkom a bit, consider https://www.rain.co.za/#/order - the off-peak (19 hours a day/night) is R249pm. There's a test period of 15 days if you get a SIM or 3, from them. I'm considering it myself. (in PE).

On Telkom, I'm currently getting anywhere from around 5Mbps (at its lowest) to a fairly consistent 30 - 45Mbps, but it does bounce around quite a bit on a big download. (this early am I got as much as 84.55Mbps, but sure that was for a split-second). I think your latency will be as much a factor to consider. Mine is just under 40 (ping), but it's slightly better than my ADSL which is almost 45.

Can you advise where you got your B315, and how much you paid?
(I don't think they're available in-stores these days, which is where I'd always prefer to purchase from).

hi there, well I swapped a guy that probably got an upgrade which came with this router.. so I scored nicely :)

I actually currently have a Telkom contract, well two actually lol. but one is the deal of the month 2016 July.
and I get 9mb download and about 14upload. latency is about 40..

this is why I am looking at getting another deal with them as this deal is over.. need to upgrade basically

Don't know much about it all, but (from what I've read here) I think your higher upload is indicative of being on 1800MHz, so with the B315 you could try forcing it to 2300MHz which should give you higher download speeds, and judging from my own experience, if you leave the router on Auto then you shoud get higher download speeds, anyway.

I'd steer-clear of getting another contract with Telkom (unless you feel there's more value in it), having read all the sad stories on this forum of people trying to get them cancelled, and still getting charged once they have a ref. no. & think they have.

no I get you... buuut why not just upgrade instead of fighting for cancelation.. ? I just think its better this way.. plus since its ended I only pay like 60 rand or something...

also that stuff you said about about forcing lte bands etc I have no clue about hay.. pointers?? lol
 
Can't argue if you intend staying with them, and happy with the service you're getting. I just prefer pre-paid, but upgrading sounds fine.

You'd have to go into the router settings, by (on the Huawei routers) usually typing 192.168.8.1 into a browser window, once you have the router on & (new or any existing) SIM in it. Log in with "admin" and "admin" (username + password), but just check the back or bottom of the router for defaults.

Then in the settings, apart from selecting from various 4G and 3G combos, or Auto or only 4G or 3G, there's a section to select from the various bands (measured in MHz), or to select them Auto. I don't have a B315 so you'll have to just play-around or ask / search the forum for previous posts on that router where in the settings to go to.

Problem is, these are deals which incl a B525 router as well which you don't need.
Telkom shows "SIM only" in the search results, but when click on links, they incl. the router.

In their brochure I have, dated to the 19th Sept (yesterday), they had 10 + 10GB at R249 (which also incl. the router). 20GB + 20GB at same price posted above, so possibly their pricing not changed. Suggest you go into a store to find if they have true SIM only deal.

I have to go soon ....

EDIT : see Dan got hold of SIM only for you, though that's 40 + 40 even though it's a "20GB SIM only" deal.

alright, ill keep that in mind, but for now she is working beautifully lol. don't needa fiddle what I don't know haha

maybe ill wait till next month and check to see what the deal of the month is..

but that's crazy expensive.. I was looking for like max R250 a month.. my other contract is R550 with them. expires end of December or beginning..

You should at least change the "admin" password in the settings, regardless, and the SSID (the name the router transmits out in public as, eg. B315 or B525 etc.) to anything generic.
