Hi BigVan99

Please send us a PM with your Telkom Mobile number or SIM card number as well as the contact number so that we can check and assist.

This is frustrating.

Went and bought the B593 LTE Modem this morning on the 25 + 25 Gig prepaid deal. Get to work and insert the sim into the modem. There is not data on money loaded onto the sim. The store does not answer their phones. I now have to travel 50km to get to the shop again as they can not sort out it over the phone. Nor do the shop answers it phone.

I hope the data experience is better that getting the data. The call centre just refer me back to the store.

Anyone able to assist?

Wow

I am impressed. Melanie came back to me and sorted out the problem. I sent them a mail and when I got home all was sorted.

Getting +- 16 Meg DL speeds and am very impressed. The latency is low and browsing feels even better than ADSL.

I will try moving it around in my house as I am currently only on two bars signal.

I am sold.

Thanks Telkom Mobile for following up.

Regards

So now invest in two poynting antennas and see how the speed will increase substantially!

What is your opinion on the window mounted antennas?

Not sure I want go the full wall antenna route.

I still currently have a 4 meg uncapped line that I will downgrade to 2 Meg just for downloads over the evenings and weekends.

Will use the LTE for daily browsing, youtube, skype calls etc.

You will have to look at the options available at Poynting and if you look on Youtube, you will be able to find many videos that they loaded doing tests in Midrand with all antennas and the impact. Just ensure that you get a LTE antenna with MIMO (I think it stands for multiple Input Multiple Output) that connects to both your antenna connectors.

IMHO go large or go home. Unless you are in a high rise building with some line of sight from your window, a window-mounted antenna won't do any good. You need to pole mount and at least use something like the Poynting LPDA-A0020.

Edit: the window-mount XPOL-A0001 is also pole mountable with a much smaller footprint than the LPDA-A0020.

To add to this, an LTE antenna is also represented as an "all-band" antenna. Secondly, MIMO simply means multiple antennas. Either you need 2 physical ports to connect two opposing diversity antennas, or you can use the XPOL-A0001 or the LPDA-A0020. Both the aforementioned products house multiple antennas to achieve the same MIMO affect but with a single cable. Note both are lower gain products at the end of the day, unlike the LPDA-A0092 (what I use).

I did this test from my Samsumg S4 via my E5776 huawie mifi, i'm not sure why I get high letancy at times( normally i'd get <40ms), i tried to reinstall the speedtest.net app on my phone :(

When I do a speedtest through my Galaxy Note 2 using Wifi my pings are also 300+. However, all other devices in my house like laptop, pc and iPhone has a ping between 20-40.

Still going strong.

A very real issue now is data. I'm out at the moment hence using my midnight data!

Telkom launched prepaid modems today and the following deals can be found for the B593:
With a Telkom Mobile Internet 5GB - R2649
With the 25GB +25GB Internet - R3299
With the 60GB + 60 GB Internet - R4099

Sweet, just picked up a new B593.

Old one is in for repairs. Let's see if my hunch was right that my old B593 was a bit sick...

I've compiled all my Speedtests, 70 in total, from my iPhone for the last 49 days. This is on my wireless network at home. I'll do another over time for my PC which generally sees much higher speeds.

The values to the left, starting at 1, are the most recent speedtests. The most recent speedtest is 18 November and the oldest, to the far right, is 01 October. Most interesting to me is how the LTE service, for my tower, has improved over time. Just compare the left half to the right half to see this.
