Telkom Speed upgrades

I'm in Greenstone as well, was on 2Mbps and asdlchecker website not reports me on 4Mbps now, but my router still connects at 2048Kbps.

I contacted TelkomZA on Twitter and asked for help but haven't had a reply yet.

Telkom's ADSL checker is just reading off a DB of some kind I think... It also says 10Mbps for me but the router shows that its only syncing at 4Mbps.

Contact Telkom, they will sync you at 10mb

called telkom last night and told them to reset my port because the checker says im on 4mb but my router still shows 2mb. anyway got the default line of having to wait till the project is over etc for the line to be upgraded. told him to reset my port in any case but nothing happened. about an hour later my line was upgraded :D.

For those on a 4mb line and 2mb accont did you find your account runs better.

My account is "2mb" but synchs at 1.5mb,

Thinking of allowing line to be upgraded and then just keeping the 2mb account, theoretically I should get a .5mbps boost

Currently I am on the 4Mbps package. According to the adsl checker my account was upped to 10Mbps. I phoned Telkom about 3 times to change my profile but no luck. I then tried the twitter route. About an hour after the tweet I noticed my router restarting by itself. After restart, I checked my router stats and some of the stats changed but unfortunately still on 4096.
Received the following sms from telkom this morning: "Good morning, I received a response from Paul Anderson who confirmed that your exchange does not support 10meg dsl speed.Cornelia from Telkom"
Seems like my exchange does not support 10Mbps so I will unfortunately have to downgrade to the "new" 4Mbps package. Damn. I really need the extra upload speed as I send a lot of big emails and do a lot of uploading from this line.

So I was upgraded to 4mb on Tuesday, and been having weird syncing issues since.. Every day (ok so it's only 2 so far..) late afternoon the line will drop and sync somewhere around 2.7mbps. Gave Telkom a call and had a few port resets done but still syncs at 2.7, sometimes 3. They tell me they don't know why it doesn't want to sync at 4 :/ Fast forward to the morning and a router reset puts it back to 4mb with no connectivity issues and Steam gets a solid 430kbps until late afternoon comes around and the line drops and syncs at 2.7 again....

Wonder what could be causing this? Congestion perhaps?

Is the actual line dropping then syncing at a lower rate? That sounds more like external interference than congestion.

Pretty much, randomly drops by itself in the afternoon and comes back up a min later at a lower sync speed. I can reset the router to my hearts content but stays at +-2.7mbps.. Come morning a single reset bumps it back up to 4mb.

I got mine upgraded 2 days ago, router now sync at 4096.
I have a 2M account (gold) with OpenWeb, and speedtest gives me around 3.5M :)

Edit: my speedtest with my 2M account and 2048 sync speed usually gives about 1.5~1.7M

Same situation I was in. I was upgraded on Telkom's side, got a similar speedtest result and then upgraded my 2mb Gold to 4mb Gold. Sadly my speeds have returned to pretty much exactly what I was getting with 2mb Gold.

I've gone from 2 > 4.

Is it all speeds regardless of whether capped/uncapped?

I was on 1Mb, called Telkom Friday to upgrade to 4Mb. I got upgraded Sunday night/Monday morning. I'm now on a 10Mb line but still 4Mb account. Speedtest is giving me pathetic results (no where near 4mb. Weirdly the needle will spike to 3Mb+ but then display an end result of around 1Mb) and torrents are super slow! Streaming is flawless though. Got a new router last night but torrents are still crawling, some of them are uploading faster than they're downloading. Any ideas?

Perhaps wait until all upgrades are concluded. Might just be due to all the changes happening currently.
Also check your router stats attenuation etc

Yeah thought as much as well, was only going to really bring it to their attention next week if it's still happening.

Checked my line attenuation and all that.. I wouldn't say it's the best, but I get a solid download speed of 430 during the day with no connectivity issues.. Then the line drop happens and it's back at 2.7.. Doesn't make sense.
