Exactly what I was thinking, but I wouldnt put it past them?

If the unrestricted local is up to line speed, then I think another juicy anti-competitive case is looming. This would mean Telkom is allowing their customers unrestricted use of their national backbone while other ISPs must pay R1000s per Mbps for IPC BW to achieve the same.

Hence our common thinking... I'm pretty sure they had their legal beagles pour over this offer from a regulatory perspective (as is their norm).
 
Nice, gaming is all I worry about.
I don't really care if my downloads take awhile too finish.

I've got a few months left on my contract with telkom, so I'll try this till then.
If it's decent I'll stay or else I'm moving to mweb.

At the very least the could make local unrestricted 24/7...which its supposed to be anyway since they aren't allowed to cap it. Though its not entirely clear what "restricted" implies.

Seems kinda harsh...BUT if the shaping is very chilled then it could still be a good deal.

Best use for this I think is for large scale local sharing. Like DC hubs or local torrents...somehow I think Telkom will be fine with that.

you guys do realise that all residential entry level product are heavily shaped when you reach the AUP. They basically saying no restriction merely a certain drop in speed which is still fast btw.

If you look at it , its a 30% reduction in line speed for a certain time window..
 
This product is epic lulz. MWeb still works out better.

Steve White is such a tonsil. I hope he retires soon and gets his giant ears out of the IT industry entirely.
 
Quick update:

James / jes helped out by clarifying in the two uncapped articles we ran anywhere people expressed confusion. Hopefully everything is a 100% understandable now.

I also embedded a short (emphasis on short - didn't get to ask nearly everything I wanted to in it) video interview that was kindly recorded and edited by the Let's Talk Network guys.
 
hmmmm...

I wonder if Telkom Do customers will be able to upgrade to some form of uncapped product.

It may not even provide services to TelkomInternet that it does provide to other wholesale customers ....

AFAIU, you will only be allowed to authenticate a 384 uncapped account on a 384 line, and local access will not be throttled.

You won't be able to authenticate a 384 uncapped account on a 1Mbps line, so you won't be able to abuse this offering to get 1Mbps uncapped local for R219.

But, other people here want to tell me it is impossible. We'll see. But I wouldn't recommend you sign a 12 month 384 contract with the hope to use it on a 1Mbps line ...

A 384k line is 100gigs a month, so 1mbps is roughly 266gigs.

Overheads as a % differ though so thats a ballpark figure.
 
Someone really should stop putting drugs into the water at Telkom.
These offerings just don't make any sense considering what every other ISP already has on offer.
