Telkom uncapped ADSL prices reduced

Never had a moments hassle going on four or five years now -- sjoe time flies

I promised to buy Kwaai Oom a bottle of DOM PERIGNON
and
Brian Armstrong copies of Sir Richard Branson's books

Maybe there is a good reaction at DAVOS and you all get raises / bonuses ?

I cancelled my MWEB account today, it was a bit sad, hopefully will get the same quality from Telkom.

The intention is that it gets better, but it is quite difficult to be sure that it will be in advance ...

I don't know if I will be able to answer many more questions, there is still a lot of work to do ....

Naked ADSL won't reduce the cost of anything. Please consult BT Openreach's price lists, and you will see that one of the pioneers of unbindling charges approx 8 times more for a 'naked' (MPF) line than for a line with a BT voice service (SMPF).

I definitely stay with mweb. Mweb will reduced its prices before month end to be correct on Wednesday my birthday and will definitely increase my line spped to R699-00.

I will be more than surprised if Mweb even respond to this move in the next 2 months.
 
This is now my third time back on MWeb. I moved over to TRL Tech when they offered something cheaper. They failed. Back to MWeb. Then I tried Afrihost. They failed. And here I am again, back on MWeb. I'd rather pay a bit more for a company that put enough thought into providing a continuously good uncapped proud it rather than jump around. MWeb do need to realise any savings would be appreciated but don't degrade the service.
 
Mweb is the best of the uncapped accounts I tried. Still there is most definitely room for improvement with Mweb's uncapped accounts. The big question is if Telkom will be able to sustain what they are offering... The big question will be how these uncapped accounts will be doing... contention ratious, shaping, throtling... etc.. My guees is that it's going to be shaped to hell.
 
I must say that after seeing this, I am seriously considering changing to Telkom from Afrihost, because they don't shape Local bandwidth, which is what I access most of the time for working from home or downloading.

I'd forgotten about TRL Tech, are they still in business? Their website's still up but their uncapped offerings start at 384Kb which seems odd and the pricing is steep compared with what's currently on offer.

Mweb always respond to price reductions and as I knew mweb for the last 7years they wil make an announcement before the end of next week. I only hope that there 4MBPS line will be R569 that will be a big improvement on Telkom's R699 for 4mbps.

Mweb haven't responded to the last round of price reductions from ISPs, so they don't always respond to price reductions.

Your hope is beyond misguided, you are expecting Mweb to slash their own bundle price of R899 to R569, which is around 35%. Not going to happen. Keep dreaming.

You are ignoring the size of Telkom Internet. They have hundreds of thousands of customers and are still the go to isp because most people are confused with the idea of paying Telkom for the line and another company for data.

It's like getting a Vodacom contract and buying minutes from Cell C.

Make no mistake this price drop is an atomic bomb for the isp industry.

Mweb is after Telkom the biggest internet provider and mweb will not respond to small piggyningies. If telkom reduce prices mweb come with something better. Last year when Telkom reduced IPC by almost the same percentage mweb surprice and make 384kbps and 1mbps the same price. With the introduction with 20 and 40 mbps in certain part of SA mweb can just surprice and make 2mbps R479-00 and 4mbps R599 or even R579-00. So let us wait till next week when they will certainly announced their plans and prices. We must take into account earlier when Telkom announced the prices of 20 and 40mbps mweb's response was that they will look at the their prices. So mweb are already busy looking at their price structure and this reduction by Telkom can just set the mood for mweb management to come with great prices.

I am aware that this is an atomic bomb for the isp industry, but MWEB will not respond by the end of next week... it will take them a month or two to respond in my opinion, and the response will not be stellar.

Actually no, Mweb are not the biggest internet provider, that honour belongs to any number of other companies like IS, VC, MTN.. they all are larger than Mweb. You seem to not actually understand the market at all by your above post.
 
This seems to be still more expensive than Afrihost's 4Mb uncapped account or am I missing something?

Fair enough, i agree, it'll likely be atleast a month. As they have already hinted it'll come down to performance. If these new shaped accounts are as quick or quicker than Mweb's current offering no doubt their hand will be forced. But if they are rubbish then Mweb will stick to viewing themselves as a "premium provider" with a higher price to match.
