Telkom uncapped ADSL prices reduced

Not jumping ship again but I hope for the others that do take up the offer it doesn't nosedive like AH.
 
Luckily these offers do not lock you in a contract.

The Do Uncapped Premium (4Mbit) cost breaks down like this.

Uncapped Data 4Mbit Line Total Landline rental Grand Total
R369 + R318.75 = R687.75 + R148.37 = R836.12

The R318.74 for the 4Mbit ADSL rental works like this. When upgrading to this package they will offer you 25% discount on your ADSL line for 12 months. If cancelling before the 12 month period finish e.g. after 6 months, you will have to pay back the discount received that far e.g 6 months = R425 - R318.75 x 6 = R637.50.

Mmm... that suddenly don`t seem like a few bucks as to when they explained it to me. But I suppose this is only for the ADSL line rental, so one could cancel the data account with them and keep the line thus still receive the discount and get data from Virgin Galactic.

Ish, Telkom's timing. I basically need to cancel my Mweb right now if i want to switch over in March. That doesn't give Mweb alot of time to respond, but still forced me to send in my cancellation request. Sometimes these policies work against you.
 
The trouble is their service is crap. I now use their android fault reporting app but cracked and called to see how far they were with fixing it, ended up slamming the phone down as some idiot the other end was trying to tell me it was my fault, anyway I should have just left it as the line was fixed the next day. This is very tempting to jump from mweb if it was just a R100 I would stay as mweb is excellent and no throttling with mweb is great, but telkom gee I don't know they are such AH and I do need a good service. Maybe I will wait and see what people who jump say about it after a month.
 
I highly doubt Mweb will drop there prices because of this, Last time when Afrihost dropped there, and everyone started lobbying on the forums for them to drop the prices, they refused and simply stated "We dont throttle" "Its not the same product" "we have better network integrity, and support", not that it made a difference anyway.
 
does the bundle include line rental or we keep that out of the picture for now.

I wouldn't move tried Afrihost, Plugg and axxess landed up back at telkom paying more, but reliable, fast service. At least they are competitive now.

Damn, so i can save R140 per month on 2mbps uncapped if I change from afrihost as an ISP back to Telkom! Though comparing apples with apples, the price difference is only R38 in favour of Telskum w.r.t. their respective bundle pricing.

I have the same question. R38 per month.

But in AH's favour - good customer service even if one sometimes has to complain on their fb page. Telkom does not even respond to hellopeter. -good billing system. The two times I had billing issues due to upgrades they assisted me generously. With Telkom I was twice billed for someone elses internet account and the answer was - we made a mistake, get the money back from that person yourself.

So yes I hope for a decrease in the 2mb bundle price from AH, but I would be daft to go back to Telkom.

Telkom is under scrutiny. It needs to cut broadband prices so that the masses have access. Given that the number of fixed line subscribers has declined every year since 2000, I am surprised by why Telkom is not making these kind of announcements every month!

Given that Telkom's very survival is at stake one would have to ask why are they making such tepid moves?
Prices need to fall by say 80% to bring us in line with other developing nations; which are our competitors. And then maybe it will stem the decline in fixed line numbers. I cannot see how these price cuts will encourage anyone without a fixed line to suddenly get one. The costs are still way to high for what is outdated technology.


South Korea's standard is now a 1GB/s. What would Telkom extort from you for this!

Either they get their act together or they will be restructured as broadband access is a key element of economic growth. It already has the highest cost broadband access of the BRIC nations; soon we will be the laggard in Africa.


There is still the onerous monthly ADSL fee; not to mention the tying of voice line rental with ADSL line. What is needed is naked ADSL and a substantial reduction in the monthly fee. Otherwise broadband access is only for the rich!

Telkom has wreaked havoc on this country. It probably has cost us substantial economic growth and jobs.

2011 Lost Customers = 200 000
2012 Lost Customers = 179 000

Jeepers!! ~R1.2 Billion potential revenue up in smoke?Bet Naked DSL could reverse some of that lost revenue.:)

No, we have been working on this for a very long time before the news that Afrihost was moving.

We are however trying to learn from their mistakes ...

Telkom doesn't peer at JINX or NapAfrica JHB, where Google currently peers. From the traceroutes, there aren't any private peering in place either. So google will be International.

Note that this is a price reduction of 'Telkom Internet' pricing, which is priced separately from ADSL lines, or copper. It is a bit unfair that people comment "ok, but why can't you drop the ADSL line rental" when we can't, as that is a Telkom wholesale item, which we cannot influence, and cannot subsidise (or MWEB will go crying to the competition commission, even though they normally get preferential treatment over us).

That's the 'link' speed, but no-one gets *anything* like that for throughput. The UK is still rolling out 72Mbps broadband, but here everyone complains that Telkom should spend money on obsolete equipment to give everyone 10Mbps before giving anyone 80Mbps.

Naked ADSL won't reduce the cost of anything. Please consult BT Openreach's price lists, and you will see that one of the pioneers of unbindling charges approx 8 times more for a 'naked' (MPF) line than for a line with a BT voice service (SMPF).
