Telkom uncapped ADSL prices reduced

I called them earlier this afternoon and I already posted that it includes the ADSL line speed rental, but not the telephone line rental of R148 and excess if you have a closer agreement as well.

This mean that Telkom is then much cheaper on their 10Mbps uncapped account as well.

Hmmmm.. Luckily my line is with Telkom still. Mweb are you gonna drop you prices?

How many concurrent connections? I'm currently enjoying 2 on Axxess Uncapped. I need 2

this is a damn good development, hopefully a market shakeup is going to follow.

How much more is the difference if you go from do2 capped 2meg line to uncapped ?
All included now is R556.00

mmmm, now the big question. What are speeds going to be like now that they are changing from throttling to shaping their uncapped accounts?

Will be very interesting to see how heavy the shaping is.

There is some shaping and prioritising going on in the background, but everything I do during the day, from Youtube to Steam downloads to the occasional VPN run at full speed. They've always quoted speed restrictions but I've never experienced them. I'm on a 2MB line and can download from FTP servers hosted internationally at a stable 202KB/s.

The first thing I want to know is how uncapped is their uncapped. What are the restrictions.

I did 158GB when I was account testing and nary a pip from their ISP team, nor even an e-mail to ask be to go back. My average use is 70GB per month, but I never have any issues going above my normal usage.

What does the bundle mean? No mention about shaping/throttling? Is this a pure uncapped product? I'm seriously considering.

Its uncapped, no throttling only shaping and prioritising of some ports during business hours. Torrents, at least in my tests, have never been throttled. The bundle is for the data and ADSL line service rental. The phone line rentail still has to be added onto the price, R148.37 per month. Considering my usage once worked out to R4 per GB (158GB usage) at one point, its well worth it.

They probably still have rolling windows/ AUP in place

No rolling windows, no draconian AUP.

One, sadly. That's the biggest hurdle preventing me from getting 2Mb/s uncapped when I move into my own flat.

Anyone in here know how good Youtube HD streaming is on the uncapped TI accounts?

Runs very well. Telkom has a local Youtube caching server that caches copies of popular videos that other SAffers view and it runs at full speed. My 2Mb line still takes a while to buffer at 720p, 480p runs without a hitch.

This is of no use to me. Their exchange is still congested and their customer service is appalling. Just trying to transfer my line has been a 2 month clusterfk. All this means is that I can now potentially pay less for a substandard service, if for once their billing system actually calculates my bill correctly - and come now. What are the chances of that?

That's industry standard for uncapped accounts as far as I am aware.

That pretty much sucks :-/

Their billing is somewhat of a nightmare. I received two invoices within a few days that were not in sync. The one said I owe R2.69, which I paid promptly. A few days later, I received another invoice stating that I owe R2.69. So which one was right? Am I supposed to assume the last one was right and make a 4c payment?

Are they also going to send me nasty emails if I have sustained downloads for a week or two or three every month?

Telkom will never do that.. I have been over my capped account by 50 gb in the past and even more without complains ... and i'm talking about capped account not uncapped..

They wont.

Telkom doesn't peer at JINX or NapAfrica JHB, where Google currently peers. From the traceroutes, there aren't any private peering in place either. So google will be International.
