Hi,
I am using this forum in desperation to solve my Telkom ADSL internet problems. I have phoned the help desk so many times and the problems do not get sorted out.

The Problem:

1. The Telkom telephone cable from the house to the telephone pole needs to be replaced. It has been spliced so many times there are more splices than cable in the area near to the house.

2. The internet is supposed to be 2 Mbits/sec. Data is downloaded at 35kBytes/sec it should be 230kBytes/sec.

3. The line is often dropped by the modem and then it reconnects. The netgear dgn2200 internet light remains red after a reconnection and the speed remains low and intermittent.

What I have done:

I have reported this SAME problem to Telkom (10210) NUMEROUS times.
My latest reference numbers (ONLY FOR THIS YEAR ALONE) are
439286
439538
175cwk060114
563cwk080114

Three years ago I reported this same fault and a Telkom technician (Benny Walker) came out and said the cable needs to be replaced. He went to the depo and logged the call. Nothing happened. I reported it again, another Telkom technician came out (several months later) and said the cable needs to be replaced. He logged the call and nothing happened. A third Telkom technician came out about 1 year ago. He logged the call and nothing happened.
I have been phoning the help desk (above references) and explaining to them all the details. All that happens is the telephone line goes beep, beep a few times and then I get an sms to say "The telephone line has been restored and if the problem persists..."
I also check on the telkom's web site and see that the fault report is then closed (each time after reporting)
The modem speed remains slow and intermittent.
The red internet remains on as I type this.
The cable has still not been replaced.

Could somebody please advise me what to do. How can I get the cable replaced and the internet speed / intermittent faults fixed?
Or is this impossible? Would it be better to disconnect the telephone line and move to one of the 3g carriers?

Thank you in advance for any information.

Well considering the walk in center ppl don't even give you contact details for their phone, what are the chances they'd just hand out the CEO's number?

But she is still in the TELKOM office. How hard is it to get info on a colleague in a different area?
Last I looked there were over 20 000 employees (will check the Sept financials to get the number) and Telkom has a weird structure, so it is not surprising!

Fair enough. But she could have done something to help if she really wanted to is the point I am trying to make. She basically took the easy way out and sent him on his way to fend for himself. Himself being the client. The person who is part of reason keeping her in business (a very small part, but a part nonetheless).

And she wasnt bothered to perhaps point you to the relevant person in your area that could assist?

She was very nice and consoling but did not know any Cape Town numbers to phone. She did mention about using the telkom residence escalation center, but I have already done that. Thanks for all your help. It helps my blood pressure!!:(

In all seriousness ... this how I fixed a similar issue

I signed up with MWEB, and ported my line.
Then I made it MWEBS issue.
Bitched at MWEB EVERYDAY for two weeks.
They got a Telkom guy out ... he spent 3 days on the issue and got the line sweeter than sugar.

See MWEB (or similar) are commercial entities with competition while Telkom are an inefficient monopoly.

Good luck pal.

no MWeb and Telkom do not compete
Telkom Internet does things
MWeb stuffs customers
no race there

Telkom builds networks
MWeb whines about not being given a network for free
so no race there
...

Btw did you get my memo to ICASA?
