I wish i could get a bulldozer and smash the hell out of our old, slow crappy exchange and get new technology.

Thanks to Charl and his team. Once again, surprised and appreciative to get the line working again.

I must just add my 2cents, Charl has always resolved faults and got things done.
Telkom seriously need more people like Charl!

Just a Side Note, Can anyone confirm for me, when moving to 20mbps ADSL (Not VDSL) do you get charged the 20mbps VDSL line rental or are you being charged the 10mbps ADSL line rental?

I love how you guys work, I sent an email to you guys to find out if i could get adsl in my area as the checker online did not have an answer for me. All i get as a reply from you guys is that my problem has been resolved. You simply just close the ticket without answwering my query or anything. It has happened 3 times now. Really disappointed that a simple query cannot be answered

Hi there,

I'm trying to upgrade my line to the up to 10Mbps (realistically 6Mbps) option. According to the Telkom website my area only supports 4Mbps (which I'm on at the moment). The thing is that I was syncing at 6Mbps 3 months ago. A friend two roads down is on 6Mbps. Another friend closer to the exchange is on the full 10Mbps. Both numbers on Telkom's site says that max speed is 4Mbps.

Who can I contact to get the max speed fixed? My line is managed by Afrihost and I can't upgrade until this is fixed.

Thanks

Can't multiquote :/

@Hummercellc - You will get charged same price as 20Mbps VDSL so R540 + analog rental however this should decrease as wholesale 20Mbps VDSL is only R300 :D. :)

@Spectaitor - Did you try send a PM over on Facebook? Just let them know the situation and be patient as they can take awhile to respond :). I have had nothing but great results and i do message once or twice more if i get worried with no response [after atleast 8hrs +-] :p.

@Kwerty - Send them [TelkomZA] a FB PM and you will get a reference number. I suspect TelkomZA on here is filled with requests :/. Let us know if you get a positive response.

Thanks again Charl, the line is working spectacularly beautiful well on 20mbps ADSL2+, allowing me a better section of routers to choose from

Hello Charl / TelkomZA,

My last post (#952) on 10 August refers - I've been receiving an SMS every day since logging the request - "Dear Customer, Telkom will attend to your faulty services shortly" . .

There is still exchange congestion in the evenings, do you perhaps have any update on what's been happening and how much more time it is going to take ?

Thanks.

Hi Charl/TelkomZA

So the techie comes to my house this morning while I'm in a movie, mucks around and says "there is nothing wrong with the line" and says he can't help.

Yet I get home and:

@TelkomZA,

I have a 10mb ADSL line that has been stable for 2 years. My downstream stats are:-

SNR Margin(Downstream) 10.5 dB
Line Attenuation(Downstream) 38.0 dB

Could I attain a higher speed than 10mb and if so what do I have to do?

Just a thank you to Charl. I had problems with my line for about 2 weeks with no idea on where the problem was. Not only did Charl help me with the problem, but now my speed is actually up to 10Mbps, where the Telkom call centre told me 6Mbps was the limit.

Just drop TelkomZA a PM and I am sure he will try everything, in his power, to make sure your problem gets sorted out. Wish there were more people like him at Telkom.

I applied for a line conversion from voice line to ADSL over a month ago. Telkom apparently don't have any ports available. I live in Douglasdale Johannesburg, anybody else in the area recently have the same problem? or is this just an excuse?

What would be the easiest way to convince Telkom to change the sad looking cable that runs from the little tin box on the pole outside to my house? I don't have any empirical evidence indicating that there is anything wrong with the cable, but I figure it can't hurt my quest to get the best possible line service to my home.

@TelkomZA

Please can you follow up a fault for me, logged over a week ago, call closed by someone and had to be reopened and have heard nothing from Telkom as yet. I had a complete disconnect last month and when I was reconnected the line was very noisy. Has been getting worse daily for the last 2 weeks until last night I could not even sync the line. Have sent you a PM with the fault.
