Hi there :),

Let me start off and say this thread is fantastic!! It really pierces through the bureaucracy and makes you feel like someone actually cares :).
Anyway recently I've been having issues, with what I believe is congestion, in Rondebosch, Cape Town.
The problems start at about 6 where my ping steadily rises until about 11 when it starts to decline.
Here's two traceroutes one taken during the day and the other at 9 in the evening both to mweb.co.za [196.2.63.110]

During the day
1 1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.0.1
2 7 ms 7 ms 8 ms 41-132-48-1.dsl.mweb.co.za [41.132.48.1]
3 9 ms 9 ms 9 ms 197-84-96-210.cpt.mweb.co.za [197.84.96.210]
4 9 ms 9 ms 8 ms vl-92-cpt-hscore-1.mweb.co.za [197.84.2.2]
5 10 ms 9 ms 9 ms 196.28.178.66
6 86 ms 10 ms 10 ms cte-core-sw2.vwol.net [196.41.144.35]
7 9 ms 10 ms 13 ms www.mweb.co.za [196.2.63.110]

At 9PM
1 <1 ms 1 ms <1 ms 192.168.0.1
2 66 ms 65 ms 66 ms 41-132-48-1.dsl.mweb.co.za [41.132.48.1]
3 54 ms 49 ms 48 ms 197-84-96-210.cpt.mweb.co.za [197.84.96.210]
4 63 ms 63 ms 64 ms vl-92-cpt-hscore-1.mweb.co.za [197.84.2.2]
5 61 ms 62 ms 61 ms 196.28.178.66
6 90 ms 94 ms 92 ms cte-core-sw2.vwol.net [196.41.144.35]
7 94 ms 95 ms 92 ms www.mweb.co.za [196.2.63.110]

This has made gaming on local servers in the evening (when most gaming happens) difficult where I get around 166 ping. This used to never rise above 60ms and usually hovered around 33ms. It is now impossible to play on EU servers as instead of 130ms I get 250 - 300ms ping.

Anyway hoping there's some sort of solution (like moving exchange) or maybe an exchange upgrade in the pipeline (hopefully).
I've checked lots of ZA forums and this seems to be a rather big problem around Cape Town at the moment.

Thanks in advance!
Max

Hi,
May you please advise what model of Samsung 55 inch smart FHD led tv you are currently offering for R809 per month. I went to a Telkom Direct Shop and they said they do not know. They said they only process the application and the tv is delivered by a different company. I can't find the correct thread to post this.
Thanks

Is there a telkom webpage showing congested exchanges, and the progress to when they will be sorted or any update on them? Would like to know the latest news on the clareinch one.

I have one complaint: Your working times are kinda a bummer. I mean I don't want to phone telkom's call centre - that is just one complete mess of people who don't know what they saying, and at the end of the day the situation gets even worse, they always get something wrong with what is meant to be done.

Your PM rate at max is a reply a day or two, and I often get rushed on what I want to say as I want to reply as fast as possible, so I can get a reply by the next day. Some times I'm stuck without internet for maybe 3-4 days as the reply rate is so slow or its the weekend, and sadly there is no Telkom support on weekends. Which I don't understand how an ISP can have and Telkom, the main internet provider, cannot. Telkom has too many problems to have such sh**** working times for support, sorry to say that.

But TelkomZA currently is the only support group that actually get's it right. Thank you.

VDSL Availability

I connect to the Benmore exchange and my neighbours have upgraded to 40M VDSL. I am currently running 10M ADSL. I contacted Telkom and ordered a upgrade to 40M VDSL. The call-desk confirmed that VDSL was available in my area and that I needed to purchase a VDSL router. I rushed out and bought a Pace VDSL router from Telkom and waited in anticipation. A week later I get a call telling me the Benmore exchange has not been upgraded for VDSL and I cannot upgrade.

Can someone please confirm that this is the case.

I have some good feedback I'd like to share.

I've had problems with my ADSL line for months on end now. The Telkom call center went through a loop of downgrading line speed and having me swap routers and all and all... I dropped TelkomZA (Charl) a PM on Saturday with my details, history and graph logs of my line dropping. He got back to me on Monday and said a technician will get to my place and test the line. The next morning a technician was at my house and found no fault on the line. A couple of hours later Charl changed the modulation on my line and bumped me to 10Mbps! The line used to fall over twice a day minimum at 6 and 4mbps, but since the change it has been running stable without any drops!

I am still testing but so far it is looking good,

Thanks Charl for the top notch service :)
