No ADSL exchange congestion, says Telkom

Telkom Internet problem resolution

Questions have been raised on why it is taking Telkom Internet so long to resolve its problems.

Telkom explained that Internet routing problems are complex to resolve and that Telkom internet has ordered additional international bandwidth from Telkom Wholesale for the permanent solution.

“Telkom Wholesale delivered the additional international bandwidth on 22 January 2014 within their Service Level Agreement for the order,” Telkom said.

Telkom added that they have communicated the restoration of their service to their customers.

Guess that explains why the chatter on the TI Uncapped thread has diminished since yesterday, like to see some feedback from the TI gamers & Netflix users though.

What is the best way to log a fault for DSLAM/Exchange/Telkom wholsale infrastructure congestion? Like I've tried logging faults via Telkom's website, and I even asked @TelkomZA to have a look and they were unable to spot the congestion - probably because their equipment is throttling traffic up to 1/4 of their max speed to maintain low latencies all the time.
I am on the one end quite thankful for this kind of throttling, because it means I can always play games with low latencies, but then it also means that my game updates take forever @ 1Mbps instead of 3.3Mbps...

This is absolute rubbish... I could barely stream SD quality via iTunes and Netflix was a no no.

There are little windows when everything works smoothly but that's about it.

On TI 4mb uncapped. Gaming improved (dota 2) but CS:GO / TF2 still unplayable (local servers - 100ms +). Streaming (youtube / twitch) non-existent.

Not sure where they come up with this BS!
 
This article is completely factually accurate.

I mean my line which can't even be stable on 2Mbps and needs to be reset every 4 hours or so just to browse the web is proof.

On a side note: how is the best way to express sarcasm in a post here?
 
What utter BS. There has been no improvement, unless you use your computer at 2am. I can't stably stream 144p video in my 10mb account.

Switching to another ISP and I can stream HD
 
On TI and currently trying to do an http download getting 10kbps on a 4mbps line, problem has not been resolved. Telkom talk a load of schit.
 
No improvement for me either....I do agree on the exchange though....my one for that...
Local I can get 2Mb/s after 5....bearable...during office hours I get full line speed...

But after 5pm, International, I get Pings of 900+ and only 0.20Kb/s. Switched to Afrihost....same crap...
so that one I don't understand???

This is a local trace, not international. Now go figure this one Telkom.
Have reported this problem,escalted,myBB,Hello Peter and latley Twitter.

This all started with the upgrades, 2mbps to 4mps. Sync at 4mbps and dont have connectivity problems. At times it takes approx. 3-5sec to reload a web-page.

Logging faults you cant log more than one fault, your number is allready in use.

I've personally not (yet) been affected by congestion, thankfully.

However, this is at the very least, partially a stupid statement to make -

“Telkom has had a staggered migration plan from 11 November 2013, starting with the 4 Mbps to 10 Mbps upgrade then the 2Mbps to 4Mbps upgrade and has started the 1Mbps to 2 Mbps upgrade on 15 January 2014,” Telkom pointed out.

I went from 1 to 2 a few days before Dec.2013 after simply phoning them up to upgrade me (like so many of you), and the charges stayed consistent with previous rates.
 
So the freshly overhauled new & improved Telkom has simply adopted standard Sanral tactics?

I'm on 4mb uncapped account. When I do a local speed test, it will burst up to about 3.8 mb/s, then rapidly decrease to 0.03. The test never ends.
 
Rubbish Telkom! Since the upgrades my line has been completley unstable. My line has currently been down for two days. When it does work, I dont even get half the speed of my 4meg line. Useless!
 
Are they for real? Are they even in touch with the real world or are they happily and merrily going around on their glittery unicorns? The internet is CRAP SLOW in the Strand environment, no matter which provider you are with. And still only 1MB line available? Telkom sucks!
