The master uplink that your dslam is connected too is congested.
Telkom is aware of this and is in the process of upgrading.

Please provide speed tests, ping and trace routes in order to be investigated and if possible have you moved to a metro ethernet dslam

some time in the day ping goes to 380ms to 490ms to F line quality :(

When they phoned me, they pleaded with me to be patient :D

No no no. Shush. I've had evening congestion for three weeks now and it's getting to me. No browsing at night, no gaming. None of that works. 900ms latency kills pretty much everything.
With the MSANs I'm hoping for ours to hit by January. It is afterall an upmarket area, so fingers crossed.
 
Your technicians are f***ing idiots, they keep BREAKING and slowing my line down, instead of fixing the problems. Joy to Telkom
 
Just an update for all those interested.

Finally had an unscheduled visit from a Technician this morning, so I was of course not at home. He got hold of me this afternoon and confirmed that the exchange is nearing capacity and has requested that I be moved off the DSLAM on to something less populated. Hopefully this takes effect before the weekend begins!

Getting quite fed up with the congestion here in Faerie Glen, can't do anything weekdays from about 16:30 to 22:00 and on weekends using the internet is not even an option. The whole day my ping has been more than 600ms to local JHB servers, at this rate it's not even really worth it to have internet anymore since I'm during the day mostly at varsity.

Yeah I heard it's bad there. Good news.... the MSANs there is due sometime around January 2014.
 
So I'm only going to see this getting fixed next year? great.... Anything else I should do, like moaning more at telkom or something else? Paying here for a service I'm not even able to completely get... kinda defeats the purpose...

It's ADSL. There's no guarantee of any sort of speed.

Don't moan about it. Instead, get your reference #s written down if you have any with the Telkom callcentre. Then send a private message to TelkomZA with your complete tellephone #, if you have reference #s, as well as that you are on a congested exchange. There is a chance they can fix the issue earlier.

ps. When you are pro-active instead of moaning, people like to help you faster, because like you, they are also humans, and they are there to help you solve issues, not listen to you moan. Just saying.

I know with the FG exchange they said that "upgrades are continuing but please be patient". They don't have an eta at present.
 
Well I didn't really mean to moan, just wanted to make them aware. TelkomZa already helped me and registered a fault a while back,so kudos to him. Just getting really frustrated and my family is also getting frustrated and then they complain to me because they think I'm the root of the problem....
 
Our service in Flamingo Vlei has been impacted since Sat 3rd Aug with limited email & Internet browsing service:
- email - we can only access gmail & business google email accounts BUT NOT any other email ISP
- Internet browsing - we can access google.co.za but not any other website including Telkom notice board.

How can you help?
 
Colinc, I am in Bothasig and am experiencing similar issues...
