Terrible speeds on iPad with Cell C data sim

So I bought one of those 2 gig per month for a year packages last year July. Loved it until recently when I started having issues.

I've checked the apn settings, and rebooted my iPad many many times.

I basically get intermittent connectivity and one out of every 20 attempts to run a speed test with their iPad app fails. When Speedtest does eventually run, It barely reaches 0.80mps, ping sits around 400-500ms. upload speed occasionally reaches 0.03mps on a burst if I'm lucky.

when speaking to technical support, they told me to change the APN to iphone.cellc.za. Did that, but still no change. I have never had to input an APN and it's actually been blank for the last 11 months from the time of inserting the sim into my iPad.


What else could I try?

Good luck with getting support! I also have an iPad with a 500MB data deal, and I keep on forfeiting on my monthly data because it is un-useable! If it wasn't for my Wi-Fi, I would not be connected at all. I logged a request, was sent a form which I had to complete and got back a reference number (SD119830). This was on 07/07/2013, and since then nothing! I have just tried connecting to the internet, but not even a Google page want to open up. I have tried both Chrome and Safari. This all whilst getting a decent 3G signal.

The problem is Cell C. There is nothing you can do. They need to upgrade their infrastructure.
 
Same issues as OP on my side. Going to switch to a more reliable ISP in March next year when my 12months expired. Cell C? Never again.

The number of the sim is 084 ### ####, and no, I have problems everywhere. signal is always full and 95% of the time shows 3G on the status bar. even when on edge I battle

I've only resorted to using a public forum when your technical support didn't know the difference between an iPad and an iPhone
 
I am just way too skeptical with CELL C as of lately even though I do have a data card of theirs but haven't used it since their network infrastructure is oversubscribed but will try tomorrow to get "RedBull promotion" and tell you if things have improved.
