Oh, also, I meant recommendations for the Michelin food places that you mentioned!

Looking for both the food stall kinda vibe and a "fancy" place or two.

We went to Raya in Old Phuket Town. They have some Michelin awards. It was amazing!

Haha yes so best best and cheapest way to get around is install Grab. Grab is like Uber.
Okay so if you want Michelin star rated streetfood you must go to Yaowarat. But it’s more of an evening expedition.
As mentioned, late afternoon, go explore Talat Noi, it’s a small Chinese village with amazing cafes and street art.
You will find some amazing things and scenes around every corner.
Yaowarat is not far from Talat Noi.
Ratchada train market is also amazing with thousands of street food stalls. Not far from BTS Nana.

This reminds me of something interesting I read about Thailand recently before visiting again.

Speaking bad about or insulting the king or royal family is a big no-no. Their bank notes have faces of the current and previous kings on it. So if ever you are outside in public with money and eg. a gust blows bank notes out of your hand, DO NOT step on it to stop it from blowing away.

It can be seen as an insult to the king and you may end up in deep schit, apparently.
 
The first time I went to Thailand in 2000 the you got 7 Baht for every Rand. It weas cheaper to go there than go on a beach holiday here.

I have not been since 2018, it is time to return.

Still is cheaper to come here and beach here than 3 weeks in CT from JHB.

Thailand generally is still very good value for money.
 
@MaisonP is inflation in Thailand having an effect on your living standards? I arrived on Wednesday evening and I'm surprised (more shocked) by how much prices have increased since my last time there.

I paid R60 bucks for a plant-based Whopper at BK in Cape Town the day before I left and then paid 219 Baht (R105) for one in Bangkok. Beer prices have gone up significantly too. A small bottle of Chang is 50 Baht (R23) at 7/11 vs R9.20 for a Castle at Tops in SA. Coffee prices are even more insane with an espresso setting me back 95 Baht (R45). Pizza and steak are a luxury with a large pizza costing 479 Baht (R227).

I'm going to have to stick to rice and noodle dishes if I hope to stay within my budget on this trip. That along with loads of fruit from the markets.

In general it seems Thailand is a lot more expensive than Cape Town in terms of goods.

Prices seem pretty accurate from what I'm seeing at the moment. It's not as affordable as it was a few years back.

A few things would need editing on the list, such as bottled water as it's comparing apples to oranges seen as though almost all bottled water in Thailand is RO instead of Spring/Mineral water.

The other thing would be to add more local tropical fruits onto the list as that's where you really save in Bangkok.

Burger King, steaks and pizzas have always been expensive in Thailand. Why would you eat BK if you can have Thai food?

Where are you going to? Maybe I can point you to some cheaper eating places.

In Bangkok you can go to the top end of Rambuttri Street and have delicious street food for cheap, then pop over to Khao San for a few buckets. The food hall on top of Phantip Plaza is cheap, any food hall in a mall is cheap.

Nice, and how you finding paradise :)

You should know better than not to buy BK. Same as Pizza hut, McDonalds, KFC etc. If you want western food you will pay. I have noticed and my girlfriend has also confirmed this but you will see the end of the month, especially KFC, is very busy. For Thai's, eating western food is a treat.

My daily living expenses are very very low here. Weekends then i go out and spend money. If i want to go for a steak i can, if i want to eat western junk food i can. It balances out at the end of the day.

Coffee is also a fad here, i usually buy my coffee from 7/11, costs me around R9 a cuppa so i cant complain.
Yes prices are not what it used to be in 2019 but i still live a very good quality of life here.

Its all about balance. Where you staying and whats your plans
